I’m tired of people saying “he couldn’t have been depressed, he was so supportive and happy”. No, that just means they didn’t open up to you about their depression.

A lot of us severely depressed people openly express how much we support and want to help people, protect and show love because we crave it so badly. Never do we want to “burden “ anyone with our inner turmoil. Depression is real and very dangerous

My best friends brother was always a little odd. He ended up joining the military, getting married and having a couple of kids. They ended up divorcing and he lived with his sister for a minute and decided to go on a walkabout, he ended up missing for 9 or so many years, he was found living in the wilderness in the Pacific Northwest. He was living in a hut eating off the land. Apparently all this time he was suffering with autism and was never diagnosed and they released him from the military because of his behavior. Hes now on meds and trying to live his life in the north. I haven't seen him in decades. He had an awful childhood with his dad and mom. And being bullied in school. I always liked him.
You never know...

My late best friend never spoke about her depression. She told her family she would be with me. I awoke to confusing texts one day and a call from her fiancé who ran out of work and went straight to police when I said “what? no she’s not with me I haven’t talked to her in days.” Instead of walking to my apartment she went the opposite direction and walked miles to an old air force base(heavily wooded and spread out) close by breached the fence climbed a tree and shot herself. I was interviewed for hours by the FBI which helped them rule it a suicide(and it absolutely was) … no note unfortunately but she was suffering and she masked it SO WELL. She’s no longer hurting. That’s the only silver lining after almost 8 years. Rip Ceci. Our birthday are next week, wish you were here to celebrate 38 with me.

It's so funny that "suicide" is a forbidden word on YT. Makes no sense, it's one of those corporate quirks that will one day confound historians.

Susan is in denial. I am divorced with no family and just a few friends, just floating through life and have thought about ending it all. What Kenny did is exactly what I've considered doing many times. Just go out into the mountains and return myself back to the earth without saying a word to anyone. I've been more honest in this comment than I have with my friends, they have no clue what's really going on, just like Susan is here.

As someone who suffers from extreme depression, I can totally believe he planned his end as was mentioned here. People DO do that. A family friend did just that when he was diagnosed with cancer and was facing losing a leg. He went up in the mountains where he had happy memories, sat down at the base of a tree and took care of business. He just didn't feel like he would be a whole man with one leg and sick. You don't always know how a person REALLY feels deep down

My personal observations on why I think he took his life, if anyone cares:
- He didn't bring the camera.
- He suffered from depression.
- His computer had the text "Help me. Help me. Help me."
- He had spoken about doing this. Taking his life, disappearing, never to be found.
- He had financial issues, and it seems all his attempts to rectify it failed.
- The phone being left at the mine. He didn't want to be tracked and intentionally wanted to disappear. But it is also clear that he was out there (the truck was there too).
- He had a gun and that is probably what he used.
- In his video (4:22), he was being very clear about having a lot of experience hiking out there. When he explains it, it almost sounds to me like he already had these thoughts, and wanted to specifically speak to the point that if he disappears in the future it won't be due to a mistake or an accident. This could be pride shining through, that he wanted people to know that, when the day comes, that he knew what he was doing, and that it was not due to him failing or making a mistake.

I also do not think that's him on the surveillance camera. The hairline and forehead especially look different.

sharon swearing up and down that kenny would never kill himself feels like she is describing what i would do in my most suicidal times. i would go online and see people struggling and tell them not to give up and turn around and hurt myself while having the same thoughts. mental health is a real beast of a thing and makes people do strange things.

I've been watching videos of Kenny Veach's disappearance for years. I'm glad EWU finally covered it too and had exclusive interview with family/associate of Kenny to get a better perspective on what went on in Kenny's life

I feel like the talk about him being so happy and excited and supportive of others is indicative of a lot of suicidal individuals. Unfortunately in my life time, those who either seriously talked about, attempted, or succeeded were for the most part, described that way.

Seeing him at the end, in the videos with his inventions makes me really sad :( Quitting his job, selling his house, getting rid of everything he had and doing anything he can to find the happiness he was looking for. He seems like a really great guy, a smart man, and I wish he could've found success with his ideas. Poor guy, he really tried. More than most people can say

Not taking the video camera when he was supposedly on an exhaustive mission to find the m cave again and show it to his viewers...says almost everything I need to know. And, he did take his gun.

Well, the footage of "someone" breaking into HIS SISTER"S business who LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE HIM and the fact that he had a specific target (laptop) and knew exactly where it was, rather than grabbing up random burglary items, is extremely compelling evidence. When you add into the equation where he grabs his leg as though it's paining him (considering he'd injured his leg some time before and complained about it) it paints a very probable scenario that he intentionally disappeared - alive. Some close people to him might even know he's alive but are honoring his request to stay silent. Heck, the police themselves may have even found him but, since it's not a crime to disappear, agreed to let him be. The house loan and taxes not being defaulted on for so long is quite bizarre also.

As someone who grew up in the Mojave desert, please be cautious while exploring the area.
•It's recommended to take 2 gallons of water per day while hiking. Take 4.
•Bring electrolyte powders like lmnt, liquid iv, etc...
•Carry a location device if you plan to explore off-trail because your cell phone will not get reception.
•It's also VERY easy to get lost in the mojave because landmarks mimic each other, and even the most experienced hikers have gotten lost on trails that they are familiar with.
•It doesn't matter how fit you are. The heat of the Mojave will take you out if you're unprepared.
•Watch out for abandoned mines.
•Be very cautious of rattlesnakes; the Mojave is home to the Mojave Green, which has both neurotoxic and hemotoxic venom.

With that said, it's very sad what happened to Kenny, but this should be a warning to everyone about the dangers that the desert holds.

Questions: If he faked his death, what would he have to gain? And if he died out there, why hasn't he been found? Why was he always going hiking with little water and non-nutritious food? Then drink alchohol immediately after while dehydrated? Still wanted to reside on the property as a live-in caretaker? That's really weird. He seemed like a very odd person. Have you also noticed he seems very rehearsed? Like he had already planned what he was going to say.
