Michael Tooley - What is the Nature of Personal Identity?

Look at an old photo. Then look in the mirror. Those two images are of the same person, right? How so? They don't look the same. Their memories are different. And virtually every atom in their bodies is different. We feel unity across time, but is this solidified sense of self an illusion?

The brain and heart remembers you as you.

I don't understand the alleged objection about replicas and duplication. What makes that objectionable? I personally worked with Michael Tooley, and we've had this conversation. Good man.

If you did one of these type transfers of consciousness and did not destroy either mind then you would be one person in two places. If this was done among three minds it would help explain the mechanics of the Trinity.

All reproductions of an individual are but replicas at best. A person lives and dies with his soul and body.

If we are operating as a transceiver in this material reality as Hameroff and Penrose have suggested, then the real you is somewhere else, an information field, perhaps.

Why use the word "illusion" instead of fake or not real

You're only going to hear lies by these fools. The only way to learn how we're created is to listen to the voice of God and obey his commandments like he had his prophets write thousands of years ago. The blessing of knowledge will flow into your mind if you listen to his voice.

Deuteronomy 28:
1: And if you obey the voice of the LORD your God, being careful to do all his commandments which I command you this day, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
2: And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God.
