I love his stroke! It looks so much slower than the others but at the same time he's going so fast! It's a beautiful technique.

Thorpe has the best all-body swimming stroke of all time, legs, core and arms all perfectly synchronised producing unhurried power and speed.

Comes out in front of a delirious home crowd, the world is watching on TV, millions have been spent for this Olympics... he's under tremendous pressure. Thorpe wins easily, makes it look effortless and produces a new world record. What a champion.

Can you imagine being 22 years old and becoming depressed because you've accomplished all there is to do in your chosen field? Waking up and not being inspired to try something new because you've succeeded at every venture you've attempted. Amazing.

And he's absolutely gorgeous.

Thorpe is on another level and is a unique talent not seen in more than 2 or 3 decades. He looks like he's having a relaxing freestyle while the rest work to keep up (behind). Even Michael Phelps doesn't have the same swimming style or presence.

His achievements were outstanding, but imagine what he could have achieved in his career if he was happy

I'm still a fan of Ian Thorpe, 24 years after I first saw him compete. His extended arm technique is legendary.

Once Ian Thorpe starts kicking in the last 25, it's truly game over. You're not catching him. One of the few greats that had the hype put on him and he delivered.

wow, this is amazing it's been a long time since last watched Ian Thorpe swimming in the men's 400m freestyle final at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. I was in grade seven in primary school here in Australia and watched this live on Aussie tv stations here in Australia. Just like this was yesterday.
