What happens when you try locking your key fob inside your Mazda CX-5? With the intelligent key entry system, if the car detects your keys are inside, it does unlock it for you. Not 100% dependent but at least it does something to let you get your keys back.

Can absolutely lock the keys in. If you lock the door with the key anywhere in the car, then close the door and it only partially closes, it shorts that circuit so the door stays locked. Even if you then hip-check and fully close the door, it will stay locked.

Be warned -this is not accurate. I was locked out of my 2021 Mazda Cx5 over the weekend. I opened the passenger door, changed pants on the side of the road and put the pants (with keys) inside the car. Walked around to the driver's side door and it was locked. Walked back to the passenger side and it was also locked. I never locked the doors but I was now locked out. I was not in cell range so I couldn't use the app. Walked to cell service, called Mazda roadside care and was told a tow truck would arrive in 90 minutes but it never arrived, after a few hours I broke the passenger window. Hours later I received a call confirming that no tow truck was coming.

Mazda apologized, but even though my car is still under warranty they are making me pay $800 to fix the window I was forced to break because the CX5 locked me out of my car, the app only works within cell range, and their 3rd party roadside assistance program was a no-show.

Nope, doesn’t work like that. My key is in the trunk and I’m chilling outside

Two days ago I turned off my CX5 and had the fob with a strong battery in the front console. It locked itself as soon as I closed my door and before I could open the back door to get my newborn out. I had to break the window. Electronic key fobs are infuriating - they fail and are expensive to replace. I never had a physical ignition key lock my doors on me and trap my baby inside.

So if I wanna sleep in my car while car camping you telling me in order to be inside and have the doors locked so someone can't just come up in the night and try to open the doors, I have to remove the fob battery? Then reinstall the battery when I wake to drive away?

The car ONLY anti-lock when the key fob is in the *front seats, *not anywhere behind it. Learned that the hard way. The weird thing is, the MyMazda App senses the key insides and doesn't let me use any remote functions other than the double beep. Tried starting engine andd unloccking all comes back failed because key fob inside vehicle, but lets me lock the door in the first place. Waiting for Mazda Roadside Assist.

I managed to do it once, on a 2012 1st gen CX-5. So my CX-5 backdoor is sometimes a bit hard to shut completely until another attempt to shut it firmly. At one time while all the other doors are locked, I left the key inside the trunk and the back door was not shut completely but only until the point that the closing mechanism is holding it. So the beep was not there but I also cannot open the luggage door because it automatically shuts the opening mechanism since the key is not with me.

I Was panicking but when I got a bit chill about the situation, I tried to push the back door a bit firmly and suddenly it trigger it to sense the key was inside and activates the opening switch😂.

Other than that the first gen CX-5 works exactly as the video described above, almost no chance that you can lock the key inside even to the point that I became complacent and locked myself out from my old BMW x5.

This does not work on a 2021 Mazda. The car still locks and does not unlock no matter what you do

My 2014 does not have this. Locked fob i. Tbe car twice now. Very annoying it doesn't have this sort of prevention. My previous keyless ignition vehicle did. 😢

Today my wife left the fob inside the car outside Walmart and it didn't beep. She later found that the car is locked (Mazda CX 5, 2018). all doors including the trunk were locked. We live nearby. I walked with the second fob. The battery on the second fob was dead (never used this fob). I used the skeleton key in the dead fob to open the car. The fob that was left locked inside the car is now working fine. When I leave it inside and try to lock the car, it beeps and the doors are not locked. Strange!

I literally got locked out of mine yesterday. Fell off clip and was on the seat. The car never peeped at me. I tried my Mazda app and it said it won't open because your key is in the an hour in the rain for AAA to unlock it for me.

This does not work. My new Mazda will lock the key fob inside automatically and will not allow you to open the door.

Did your car save you from a lockout before?

Damn I was hoping there was a way I can lock the key to access with a second key at a later date. Friend wants to leave the car for me at the airport parking.
