I hear birds etc, the clock, the fridge running... Can hear people talking if they aren't right next to me, but I have to strain to hear and still don't understand except the odd words here and there and have to ask what, or try to guess what they're saying. I have to have the TV etc on really loud, and family have told me I need a hearing test after me always asking what? What? Etc ..Finally have my hearing test on Monday, the waiting list was ages. Can't wait, and I hope they can see what's wrong and help me xxx

Yeah today I took my hearing aids out and I noticed I couldn’t hear the birds and how different it is and I thought shoot I am proud my parents were concerned about my hearing loss when I thought I didn’t have any hearing loss because I thought what I heard was normal .

A really great summary of a wide range of first signs, well done. My first sign was at the start of the pandemic when I discovered the impact of face masks on my comprehension! I didn’t realise I was compensating by lip reading.

Hi Emily you make so much sense! We always look after our eyes & once year we get sight test & we mostly wear glasses when we need them! But when our hearing gets damaged that another matter! We bury our heads in the sand! We are too young for hearing aids!!we are lucky here in the UK we get free hearing aids & batteries for life! They may not be top of the range ones! But as soon as people see us with these things on our ears & some of us have coloured molds people treat us differently! Hence why people won't wear them! I had a stressful week last week! The doctor found I had an irregular heartbeat! So got to have an echocardiogram next month! But the stress left me profoundly deaf just a odd muffled sound even with hearing aids! Plus with my sight not that good I felt so lonely! I just sat around could not enjoy music & things like that! I had to use a white cane as with no hearing & poor sight I could not hear the cars! I just sat & cried I don't want to be DeafBlind I can cope with being deaf but not blind! So please please get your hearing & sight checked! Glasses & hearing aids are no big deal look at Emily she makes hearing aids look sexy! Like some people that wear certain glasses! I hope & prey god keeps you all safe & he has his reasons for us being deaf etc! 💖💖💖💖💖

What? The furnace makes noise?
Hardest for me are contractions. The difference between these two sentences is huge:
“This is great.”
“This isn't great.”

BTW, in early July I'm going to the audiologist to get new hearing aids! My old Costco Resound aids are 7 years old (the pandemic messed up my schedule). I’m going to an audiology clinic and getting top of the line so I assume the difference will be huge.

I am 43 and have woren hearing aids most of my life and they don't make me fill old. To me hearing are just a device to help with my moderit to moderitly sever seseral neural hearing loss to help me hear better. Also I can't help the fact that I got bad genes from my father's side of the family that was the cause of most of my hearing loss. Also if I take out my hearing aids everything sound's muffled. Also it takes about 55 to 60db ruffly for me to hear clearly.

I work at this wearhouse And people tell me things and I just see their lips moving. It’s not like I stop hearing small sounds like voices and Average sounds get really loud. Not loud to the point where it hurts just loud like I turned up the tv. The other day I opened up to a coworkers about this problem because I kept telling the what to often and she asked me can u not hear. I told her I’m having a hard time hearing voices just voices. And she looked at me disgusted and just asked someone else for help. I was kinda hurt because i try at hard as you at this job and even with this problem I’m trying 100% every day but it’s whatever right. Funny thing is that I can be sitting in my room and I can hear the sounds outside of my house and the sounds in my house even the smallest sounds but voices just get me

I have an interesting scenario- I had chronic ear infections as a kid, swollen adenoids that were taken out, and two sets of tubes. My mom and I think I have very mild hearing loss because of this because I CONSTANTLY as “what?” In conversation, and my friends are tired of repeating themselves at this point. Dad part is I’m only 19, and music is my passion and I’m in an art degree path currently withh musical connections, so I’m scared how this will affect me. Since realising I might have hearing loss roughly 5 years ago at this point, I got nice concert earbuds to prevent any further loss in kid situations, and also got a hearing test.
I don’t remember what the test results were, but my mom tells me I had mild hearing loss.

Thing is, I can still hear birds, hear the water running, etc. I don’t lose things or not hear them drop unless they’re quiet, and (for the most part) I don’t turn the tv up too loud, though I do often use subtitles.

But I always have so much trouble hearing in noisy or crowded situations, or when there’s multiple people talking, or when people are facing away from me or are in front of me walking forewords, even if only by a foot or two. My brother literally makes fun of me for it lol. Would I benefit from hearing aids if all I need them for is a mild enhancement in communication? Would they be a waste?

The other thing is I work in food service currently and sometimes have trouble hearing my managers, which is a problem because it’s very loud in the drive through!

Thank you very much for your very informative video, it is very useful! 😊 I am ver glad I found your channel.
Is it an indicator if you often don't understand what people say when their back is totally or partially turned or when they are moving around?

If anyone here with hearing loss can help me out here, it would be very appreciated.

I have an odd case. I am 15, almost 16. Over the course of a year or so, I've been noticing that I have been having troubles hearing and processing voices and information. It has gotten to the point where multiple of my friends have been asking if I am partially deaf, or believe that I may be.

I have played in school band every school day for 4 years, and sit directly [only 1 foot] in front of loud snare drums, cymbals, and bass drums with no ear protection.

I can hear sounds like water running and a dishwasher, etc. But I ALWAYS have trouble sometimes distinguishing my friends voices and what is being said to me. When a teacher is talking or asking me a question, I have to sit there and stare dumbly because I have no idea what was actually said. Same goes for when I am playing dnd and hanging out with my friends.

I always have to use captions for everything, even if I can hear what is being said. I cannot process the information. In school we often use videos and digital media, and when a video does not have captions, I find that I cannot complete my work because I missed out on half of the information.

Many of the things in this video apply to me. I often feel left out with my friends, even if they are all including and talking to me. I avoid talking so much because what am I supposed to say? Even after asking them to repeat multiple times, I often have to take several moments to process. And sometimes that doesn't even work out for me.

I have let my dad know about this since November 2023, but he always has treated it as a joke. He finally says that he will get me to the doctors sometime this week, which I am hoping he stays true to.

I am so tired of having to struggle and not quite know what is going on with me. I can hear [mostly], but I cannot process at all.

Again, thank you so much to anyone who reads this, and anyone who may be able to help me.

Emily I like your videos. I have a video idea for you. Since it was hot today 106 in salt lake city Utah today do a vedio on how to protect your hearing aids from hot and cold weather and how they effect your hearing aids and the hearing aid batteries. This will help thous that are new to wearing hearing aids. I might even learn somthing new myself Emily.

They said I need hearing aids but I am able to hear kinda almost everything not clearly but I can. But idk if I did wrong the hearing test or not. Im asking myself a lot of questions because it said I am moderate to severe in the low frequency. If someone has an answer I will highly appreciate. I'm 27 soon to be 28 and is all new to me.

Hi. Nice video. It's great that hearing aids help you to be independent. I'm curious to know what kind of job that you do. I was anxious that hearing loss would stop people from getting certain jobs.

Going into public places when I sit with my family if they are near me I can hear them background sounds I can’t but now waking up this morning I had water running I couldn’t hear who was talking any noise on top of voices I can’t here the person. Constantly ringing in the ears. My phone volume is all the way up with headphone I can barely hear music and voice it sounds flat almost to muffled. Some voices sound muffled as u mentioned I do space out it’s hard to consentrat on wholes talking if I’m not looking at the person but when all are talking at once’s it’s harder. When someone calls me from a room I no longer know where they are calling me from.
