The Magical Mont-Saint-Michel: an Island once more at high tide

Over twenty times a year, there is an amazing natural show as exceptionally high tides totally surround the Mont-Saint-Michel.

We stayed overnight there and I had been videotaping it from the parking lot below in the evening. That night I discovered I had lost my passport and driver's license and wallet. I prayed to St. Michael asking for help to find it. Early the next morning I retraced my steps in the parking lot, which apparently had been inundated with sea water overnight. Amazingly, I found everything I had lost, which had been floating in the sea water. I call it my Mont-Saint-Michael miracle.

I went there last year. Beautiful “village” and the view from the top is astonishing. If you’re into photography, anticipate the moments in the year where the water is at high tide and go there. You can take pictures of the island with hundreds of seagulls flying around the rock.

What our ancestors did to build this over hundreds years is really unbelievable, but what they did in the 2000s to save it (removing the old sea wall from 1900s building a new bridge and a dam which work with tides to remove all the sediment) is also pretty amazing!
