What’s sad is that the whole avalanche could’ve been avoided if Kenai didn’t neglect Koda immediately after he told him off for teasing Nita with the salmon.

Kenai is not to blame for what happened any more than Koda is. Kenai was falling in love, which is a perfectly natural and right thing and he genuinely needs the companionship of someone who is as mature as him and cares about Koda as much as he does; Nita is both. Kenai never let his priorities get mixed up, he was just excited and happy to have Nita in his life. Koda was, perfectly understandably, not mature enough to understand this, and things got out of hand for a minute there until Kenai and Koda talked. Nita, like the perfect match for Kenai that she is, understood that Kenai needed to stay with Koda, and respected that.

I really understand Koda’s feelings during the song Feels Like Home, and everything that happened between that song and this scene. And also - I personally think a lot of things are unfair to Koda in this movie:
Kenai got Nita as his girlfriend.
Rutt and Tuke got one of those two moosettes each, as their girlfriends.
Tug got that female bear called Hoonah in the opening scene of this movie, at least as his love interest.
But did Koda get any girlfriend in this movie? No.
In other words, Koda was the only major character in this movie who did NOT get any love relationship partner.
