Gregg Allman Reveals Why His Marriage with Cher Didn't Work Out

Gregg Allman talks about why his marriage with Cher didn't work out, and he tells Dan Rather about the reasons his other marriages didn't work out either.

One of my brothers was a limo driver in Raleigh, North Carolina for several years. Gregg and his entourage were his fare for one evening. Gregg wanted the finest Italian food in the city. My brother knew just where to go. When he got out to open the door for Gregg and his party, my brother started to get back in the limo to wait for them. Gregg insisted that he come in and have dinner with them.
To me, that says something good about Gregg.

I just finished Cher's book, and she really loved him, in spite of his heroin addiction and alcohol issues. That said, she stuck by him through rehab (which he chose to do for her and their child, ) but addiction is a hard thing to conquer. I give him credit for trying. She said he was a good Dad and a good husband, but along with regional issues, it really was the addiction issues that ended their marriage. I listened to the book and all she had was love and respect for him, and it sounds like he felt the same.

Two years after this interview, Gregg got married again. I iived nearby Richmond Hill, and knew people that would see him in the area on his motorcycle. At the gas station, restaurants in the small town.
