This lady is the queen of finger waves. She uses the banana clips or sometimes a pocket comb, but you got the right idea, you just gotta let it set longer to hold.

Try doing this while your hair is wet, using a setting lotion or mousse. Not curling mousse. Use smaller section of hair then swoop it. Hope that helps. Still cute though! 🎉☺️

Not a bad attempt. To be honest I almost failed finger waves on my state board exams 😂. I hated doing them but doing them on yourself is sooo hard. Have a girlfriend watch a tut and have her do it. Or keep practicing. I will tell you this though you gotta hold that comb and your fingers tight to the head there can be no slippage hold hair in place like you did, push back on comb but pressing a lot of pressing and the slowly drag your comb out, they need to go opposite ways each row. Bc your hair is short try a tiny row at your temple and see if you can get 3 rows in on that side (alternate) on your part sweep. The first wave is the most important it has to be right bc it sets the pace for the rest of you can get that wave right and a few on the other side, you can wear a barrette or hair pin on other side or just tuck behind ear.
