As heavy fighting erupts around Fort Magruder and the "Bloody Ravine" in front of Williamsburg, Union forces from "Baldy" Smith's division, namely Brigadier General Winfield Scott Hancock's brigade, discover that the Confederates' left flank is exposed, opening the way for a possible flank attack that could secure victory for the Federals in the battle. Hancock leads his men in securing one of the unoccupied Confederate redoubts, but soon comes under counterattack by Confederate forces under D. H. Hill and Jubal Anderson Early. Hancock must hold onto his position and hope for reinforcements to arrive and exploit his "Superb" flank attack.

Hancock the Superb indeed. The man was an absolute beast. Am also reeling over McClellan actually displaying something resembling decisive action. Great job as always!

D.H Hill trying to wrangle a bunch of dudes just hanging around in the middle of a pitched battle is hilarious. Never heard of him before your videos but he's quickly proving to be my favorite commander in this series.

Lovin these videos, so much detail and preciseness put into them to really understand how these battles were fought

Very impressive. Especially because i never see a more detailed video about the battle of williamsburg which in nearly every other civil war documentation or book is barely just a footnote in the penninsula campaign which is cleary not adequate. You show very impressive how difficult it was for the officers of the time to got a clear picture of the battlefield, made decisions, move and to coordinate large units. And that Gen. McClellan was most effective in binding its own laurels

Please keep these coming. Even in battles I know the outcome to, I am usually not familiar with the details that you're providing. You're thorough research and animations has me on the edge of my seat as I root for my side or particular generals to take the initiative as though the outcome hadn't already been decided over 155 years ago

A lot of Virginia wooded areas have dense brush at their base. I can easily picture men getting torn to shreds and becoming exhausted trying to move quickly through that stuff.

Love the painting used around the 18 minute mark, never saw it before.

Thank you so much for these videos, I recently got heavy into the civil war history last year, and your attention to detail and knowledge of the regiments and their movements is astounding. Fantastic research and I love how most of your videos are on battles I've never heard of or wanted to learn more about. Keep up the great work!

I have watched all your videos and can't wait for more! You go into so much more detail than anyone else. I love hearing about battles that I didn't know about too! I mean I have only heard about Fort Donnelson, but I never knew how close of a battle it was until I saw your video. Keep up the great work lad!

It’s crazy cause where I live in Williamsburg is right down the street from this hotel called fort Magurder inn which was build ontop of a battle field I actually live in between a couple of the of the redoubts (the on they build I-64 on top of and I’m directly behind redoubt park) my neighborhood was apparently build ontop of there the union camped out at (for the locals which would be where the riverside hospital doctors hospital is today that quarterpath neighborhood)

I often think that a couple of dozen walkie-talkies would have cut two years off the war.

General Hancock showing how SUPERB he is on the battlefield. The beginning of one of the finest and most revered Corps Commanders in the Army of the Potomac, at the beginning of his Civil War career.
