Installing the World’s Biggest Wind Turbine | China's Mega Projects | FD Engineering

China’s wind power installed capacity has beyond U.S and became No.1 of the world in 2010. Now, the world’s biggest wind-driven generator on the sea, the SL5000, is under construction. Its cabin is big enough for helicopter taking off and landing, the height of the wind wheel is over 40-story-building. The installation on the eastern sea is a dangerous task. A Crane as expensive as a Boeing 737 and China’s biggest sea hanging ship take the assignment. This is a challenge to this project.

If you take a drink every time he says impeller, you are drunk enough by the end of it to not care that it is called a rotor.

Didn't need to see the Elephant get electrocuted!

Bit of a shame we were not treated to images of the generator operating in the final stages of video.

Currently, the largest WT in the world is the Vestas236 rated at 15MW.

The wind sector moves quickly.

A really breath taking moments. Super action by the Chinese Engineers. China is contributing a lot to the world, but boasting.

Wave power would be good in these waters

Bearings dont handle torque... They support the peice taking the torque.. they have alot of pressure resting on them though... There support runners essentially good quality is one thing maintenance is another...

It DOES use power.

When idle, it has to be powered to keep the insides of the tower and nacelle warm to stop condensation from destroying the electrics, and power to stop the blades from freezing.

It seams to me the industry would be better if it pursued turbines that are large but not for ever chasing being the biggest. We need more proven turbines of a size that can be installed and serviced, and produced with less stress, to bring wind power on line more quickly.

The animation in the first third of the video shows the blades in the wrong orientation - with the sharp trailing edge facing forward.

The rotor is frequently called „impeller“ which would be an internal rotor.

Moment and torque are very similar yet slightly different things.

42:43- is there a hole in the edge at the end of this blade?

Soak up the stats on that crane, ,,lifting cap. An all I can say is 👆 cable up and stand back, , , way back. Whatever is on the load line is either going up, get ripped into or be completely scrap after the fact. What a beast

I would like to see those blades turn without some kind of oil product keeping it greased up. No mention to when this wind turbines life is over you can't recycle any part of it in any way and has to be dumped in a land fill.

1 Water hydroelectricity from the stream
2 Elevated the cabin more heighten
3 Wind turbine for more electricity

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
