A woman living near Poulsbo alerted authorities after she could not get inside her home because of a raccoon invasion last week.

Kevin McCarty, a spokesperson for the Kitsap County Sheriff, said the woman called deputies Thursday because about 100 raccoons outside her home were "demanding food."

The woman told deputies she started feeding raccoons around her house about 35 years ago without any problems.

You offered them food for decades. What else would YOU expect they would do???

And that's why you don't feed wild animals 🙄

Maybe just stop feeding them and never do it again?

Her poor neighbors. Can you imagine living next door to this person?
It should be illegal to feed wildlife because people are too stupid to not see all animals as pets for people to enjoy.

Puts food out for raccoons and then is scared because many show up to eat. This lady is the nuisance, not the raccoons.

My neighbor has also been feeding them every night outside their home. I’m not surprised to see dozens of raccoons everyday wandering around our neighborhood. 😢

Stop feeding them. They are not there for nothing .

Is she taking any accountability for the problem she created? So, basically, she can no longer afford to feed them and is asking for government agencies to solve the problem for her. The raccoons will pay the price. Cats can be rehomed...raccoons, not so much.

Can't the woman understand she's been included into "the family"?

Yeah, you’re not supposed to feed any of the wildlife. Including birds.
And if you have bird feeders. You’re attracting rats.

Feeding them for 40 years what did she expect? She should expect to be eaten by raccoons. FFS...

It's her own fault for feeding them.

Racoons are no fookin joke - they get bigger than you think. Back when I was living in Reno/Sparks NV, I was walking up Wells Ave around dusk, When I spotted a pair of huge racoons, like german shepherd sized, walking my direction on the other side of the street. Of course I stared at them, I mean the sheer size of them shocked me. Bad move. I caught their gaze, which you NEVER do with wild/feral animals. I still remember that baleful look they gave me, like "what". Totally fearless. I averted my eyes quickly, continued onward with a silent prayer. They kept going as well.

They are cuter when they aren’t harassing you to feed them.

Since she's been doing this for decades I bet that almost all are related. Animals teach their babies how to get food.

Major nuisance created by human interference.

I might be going out on a limb here, but I'd guess feeding racoons for decades wasn't very smart. But what do I know? Silly me.

That being said, that can occur naturally. to have that many raccoons in & around your house with little concern for neighbors tells me something else
