The “Clean Girl” aesthetic is all the rage right now – with her slicked-back hair, glossy lips, and gold jewelry, but all of these style choices have been staples among Black, South Asian, and Latina women for decades.

If a latin girl uses gold earrings, has slick hair and simple make up, she's a "chola" but, if a white girl does it, she looks clean, sophisticated and compose....people says that we are very dramatic but sometimes I think we are not dramatic enough

The fact that we even had to do this because a lot of our hair textures are considered "unkempt" and need frizz-control to even LOOK "clean"🙄

This was my look my entire life. Never once did I get made fun of or called names.

As I look myself in the mirror with my slicked back hair, glossy lips and gold hoops.... this is literally and everyday look that we just go to bc its easy who tf started calling this "trendy"? It's something we grew up with our mom's doing. It was quick and made my mom personally look beautiful af

Look I am 37 and I've rocked a "clean girl" look my whole life. I am Latina. I could care less what they call this. In a year or so there will be a new trend that someone will label and move on. I will continue my personal style and live my life!

It’s true. It was seen as ghetto and ratchet before, now it’s ‘clean’. It’s not people being overly sensitive, it’s just the reality. Am I crying about it? No, but pointing out something isn’t wrong either smh

I don’t think white women are “claiming” this look. It’s just a look. Every look comes from someplace or someone. Let’s keep things in perspective and not get bothered by the little things.

Same thing the the “glazed donut” skin thing, that was an Asian skincare thing, that I’ve seen Asian women talking about since 2014, and then last year everyone pretended like Hailey Bieber invented it!

I thought that you were going to talk about how "clean girl" used to mean wearing just a minimal amount of makeup so that you looked like yourself but a little better, but now it has been transformed into a full face of makeup where the goal is for everyone to look exactly the same.

This is how I feel about freckles. As a redhead I have plenty. Not only was I chastised for being a redhead but was constantly talked down to for the freckles. Now people paint them on 💁‍♀️ it is what it is. I've been called a family of devil's (as my children are redheads as well) but also locked in a locker in highschool for best a ginger day.

The "ballerina" look with a slicked back donut bun has been around forever. The last time the "clean girl" look was in, was like 2007. Natalie Portman has been wearing the look for 30 years. Sarah Jessica Parker always wore the look. No one said it's owned by anyone.

The fact that I’ve seen so many girls. Black and Latina, with slick back hair, and lined lips being called “hot Cheeto girls” while white hair women do it. And they’re called “the it girl”. Like wtf

Why do people need to give credit to use this hairstyle, it's not like white people never used gel or lip gloss? This is so insane to me, I'm hispanic too. Yall do whatever u want

This makeup trend has been around for women in general who want to wear simple makeup and not look ‘too done’ I don’t think it was only black or Latina women doing clean makeup. This is too woke for me cuz it’s a reach 😂

No individual woman who likes this trend Is hurting anyone and certainly not intentionally, so I believe this type of victimization/blame game is divisive and unnecessary.

It's weird that shiny hair is called a clean aesthetic. My hair looks like this when I haven't washed it. 🤔😂
