“You’re the CEO of your career.” I love that!

Fun fact: you either pay me what I’m worth or I’ll quit and go somewhere else. I’ll absolutely use you as a branch to swing to a better job.

As a tech recruiter I’ve found most candidates with tech skills negotiate hard and don’t leave a ton of money on the table

I’m guilty of this. I’ve never been good at negotiation, and I gave my salary range during the interview. The offer was at the lower end of my desired range, but I really wanted the job. It’s very different than the kind of work I’ve been doing for the last five years.

I’m almost three months in now and I really like the job. The people and the culture are great, and I’m learning new skills that will definitely help me in the future.

I was in an awful, toxic job for around 10 years and desperately wanted out. I interviewed and got the job I have now and it was so hard to negotiate for more because I wanted the job so much. I did negotiate though and got the additional salary I wanted. It took one phone call and they got back to me in like 20 minutes to offer me more. Honestly, it was the easiest 6 grand I ever made. Then again, I was promoted in January and got a 25% raise so I thought that was already very fair. This week I have an interview for my first management role in the same company and I have a little more leverage to negotiate if I get it, but honestly I’m just happy if I get the job.

I’ll admit. I didn’t really negotiate my last offer. I got what I asked for so I didn’t think I’d have a firm standing to ask for more. I think I maybe could have squeezed out a small sign on bonus but didn’t want to risk it.

I didn't negotiate my salary (I usually do) because it was well above what I was looking for. A year into the job I wish I asked for more.

I tried to negotiate offer based on salary and time off, both of which were important to me at my most recent interview ~6 years ago. I got what I requested because I knew the market, what I needed, and the value my vacation would provide to myself and my company. I had subsequent data points that my requests were spot on and not low ball.

I asked for $5k more than their offer and they sent me an email three hours later saying the position was no longer available. Sometimes negotiating will negotiate you right out of a job! 😂

Is it acceptable to negotiate my salary if the position I’m applying for isn’t something I have worked in directly before? I felt like if I was new to the role then my only chance of getting it was if I accepted the first offer. But if I’ve worked for a health insurance company for years doing various things like authorizations and auditing claims and contracts, but now I want to be a process improvement consultant or business analyst, I’m not sure how much wiggle room I’d have to negotiate anything higher than the minimum for that role.

Could talk about dealing with companies wanting to negociate your salary expectations down but not wanting to negociate the job positions tasks, holiday entiltlement or benefits to compenciate the lower salary offer?

This really gets my goat. Companies seem to want a perfect candidate for cheap but get upset if your a top candidate and is only asking for what they job is valued at in the market!

How does negotiating with a travel company work. Would be a invaluable to know how to take out stipend/per diem and health insurance to know what an appropriate hourly rate would be based on area: bill rates are a mystery. Video pls 🙏

Step 1. Research market
Step 2. Compare your value and determine the salary you want.
Step 3. When asked, tell the employer the salary you want or you will not accept the job.

I am interviewing and the recruiter (from recruitment firm not the employer) told me the range is 50 to 90k, I said sounds good. So if I land an offer, is it good rule not to accept the first offer and what % of raise to ask for is safe most of the time?

IS IT OK to respond in the interview when asked that I need to do market research when asked this question? I tried to sidestep the question but I was pressed to give a figure so I lowballed myself because I was desperate and its hard living without a job...even fulfilling requirements to get unemployment benefits is work ...I'm new to my industry...1st job I lost due to poor performance made safety errors...was receiving $28 lowballed to 24. Company offered me $23.70 with 15% quarterly increase based on company performance and shift differential based of $3. Cheap company 😒

I'm completely in the dark on this aspect of the process.

I asked for more money the manager said we will give you stock options.

I like the part where he tells you what resources to consult to learn how to negotiate for yourself. So often people make vids and simply name problems without providing solutions which is clearly ridiculous. Who would do such a thing?? Right??!! oh
