Great review. I have 2 of these and also two 24 port Enterprise switches and I love them. One correction to your review, the 8 port Enterprise switch DOES have an internal cooling fan. It is set to auto by default and gets a bit noisy if you shift to manual and ramp it up. The fan is clearly audible when you boot up the switch.

What's the difference between switching capacity and throughput?

The heat and price really puts me off. Unifi needs better options in their line up that feature 2.5Gigabit ports and SFP+ connections. With both home internet speeds and Wifi standards now breaking the 1Gbps this should be trickling down to Consumer level gear. In the Unifi line you have to go all of the way to the top of the range for this, not even the Pro switches have 2.5Gigabit per second ports.

With all of this said and price aside, I do think the USW-Enterprise-8-PoE hits a sweet spot for higher end home setups. Homes don't need as many ports but enthusiasts "need" higher networking performance. That is exactly the balance this device hits. Better than options that have larger fans and way more ports than needed.

Enterprise? Not really but okay ... Enterprise would definitely need L3 capabilities that do more than Static Routing ... I defs need a 10G switch with BGP and EVPN functionality.

Well, you just read the manual and product description. That's all. Nobody is talking about it? I've seen at least 5 videos from knowledgeable network guys who have done a great intro and review of this switch. Terrible.

Sorry you are wrong. This device does have a fan, a quit one, which comes up above 70 degrees C.
