I’m Filipina and I was in a relationship with a saudi guy for almost 2 years. Even if I knew he wasn’t down for forever and we weren’t meant for each other, we decided to have this wonderful relationship. It was amazing, but after a while, reality hit. It was time to fulfill his parents’ wishes of him marrying his cousin. Even if he wanted to fight for me, I wouldn’t do that to him. I wouldn’t take him away from his family and uproot him from his country, culture and traditions. I truly loved him and no matter how painful it was, I knew the best thing for both of us was to let go. He cut of all contact with me since the day we broke up, blocked me on every single channel of communication possible. At first it destroyed me and made me question my sanity, but come to think of it, it was a gift. 8 months has passed and now I am about to leave this country. I got a new job and about to migrate to England. I lost weight, cleared all my credit card debt, and I can say I’m in a much better place in terms of mental health. I still think about him from time to time but I have learned to accept things for what they are. Although I am still in the process of healing, I’m proud to say that I am moving on. Believe me when I say it gets better. Be patient and kind to yourself. Redirect all the energy, love and understanding back to you. Healing is a conscious decision.
