Pyramid Song performed by Radiohead

From the album Amnesiac

I jumped in the river and what did I see?
Black-eyed angels swam with me
A moon full of stars and astral cars
All the things I used to see
All my lovers were there with me
All my past and futures
And we all went to heaven in a little row boat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

I jumped into the river
Black-eyed angels swam with me
A moon full of stars and astral cars
And all the things I used to see
All my lovers were there with me
All my past and futures
And we all went to heaven in a little row boat
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt
There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt

Once I played this song for my grandmma.. more than ten years ago... she was in her 80's... never forgot her reaction "My God, what a beatiful song". It was so wholesome and I'll carry this memory till my last day.

This is one of radiohead's greatest masterpieces. I'm speechless every time I hear it.

This hits just as hard at 40 as it did at 20.

The sound of a very personal apocalypse.

for anyone wanting to play this on guitar/piano (the main progression w vocals) it goes like this: F#(3-3) Gmaj7(4) A6(3-3-3) Gmaj7(3-4) F#(3-3) F#mi(3-3) Eadd9 (4-3-3) Gmaj7(#11) (3-3-4-3-3) --- The numbers are how many 8th notes you count on each chord hit. Don't forget the 8ths are swung here! Technically this is 8 bars of 4/4 time but it's such a weird pattern it's easier to just count out each chord. Geniuses!!

There are a few parallels with Dante's Divine Comedy in this song.  The last lines of the Inferno, in John Ciardi's translation, are:  "and beauteous shining of the Heavenly cars. And we walked out once more beneath the Stars."

There's also a "little stream" at the end of the Inferno which is supposedly a reference to Lethe, the river of forgetfulness in Hades.  In Greek mythology, souls drink from the river before being reincarnated so that they can forget everything about the world and their old lives.  I'm pretty sure that's also the "river" that is being jumped into in this song.

"I didn't wanna tell you... Wanted this to be just our day..."

"It is ours."

I can't listen to this song without crying nowadays. Everything just hurts. There was nothing to fear, nothing to doubt.

Fun fact: The structure on this song is 4/4, altough is divided on 3-3-4-3-3 beats. To form a pyramid made of paper you can use that exact pattern (2 triangles, 1 square and 2 triangles again)

If this is the last song I hear before I die, as I die, my life will have been worth it.

The human who shared this with me has since passed. I’ll never forget the memories associated with this song.

One of my favorite drummers and he's not flashy. He's just so good at maintaining the balance of tension.

So, my father had a near death experience. He said he was in pain and then everything became calm and he travelled into white. He felt the presence of other souls but couldn’t make out who they were specifically. He said it was the most amazing feeling of pure euphoria and joy. He wanted to keep going and there was absolutely no fear. But in a second he came back and woke up on the ground. After he told us, he said death is beautiful and amazing and that you have nothing to fear. I always think about that story when I hear this song. Just something to keep in mind.
