Walter LeGrand was eligible for lethal injection. He chose lethal gas. The Arizona law stated that all those sentenced to death after 1992 would be executed via lethal injection, but all those sentenced prior had a choice.

since lethal gas is still legal in some states, if i was on death row i would choose it because it's more expensive than the other methods and i'm petty

"Ensuring a speedy and painless death"
Speedy, yes. But Holocaust historians would strongly disagree about the "painless" part.

It's disturbing to think about consciously taking a part in your own death by deeply breathing in poisoness gasses. Most hold their breath for as long as they can hoping to stave off their impending doom in a situation where they are struggling to accept that they no longer have power over the end result.

Executioner: shake your head of it's pain
Prisoners: *Shaking heads franticly*
Executioner: yeah im gonna pretend I didn't see that

Another thing to note, just because someone is unconcious doesn't necessarily mean they don't feel pain. There are different levels of unconsciousness. Sometimes they are unaware of anything going on, as it should be. But sometimes they are just unable to show or tell anyone their pain.

My great grandmother died last summer and cleaning out her stuff we found a photo of the public hanging of a black man my grandpa took in the 30s. He kept with him his whole life to remember how horrible it was and to try to progress and not fall into the racist mentality that was pushed on people back then. It’s a really scary/ sad photo.

If you did it correctly then hanging is very humane, Albert Pierpoint took 7seconds from the time of walking the condemned into the gallows to the time of death. (Time of trapdoor drop) he had a 0% botch rate.

Just use a firing squad no worrying about biology and it works every time while not needing any special items and it is cheap and quick

Anyone who thinks frickin' cyanide poisoning is "quick and painless" has never even read the wiki article 😒

Why are they so concerned about a painless, humane execution. A lot or most of these prisoners didn't care about humane killing of their victims. I think a few minutes of pain is some closure for their tortured victims.
