What do you know now that you wish you knew earlier in life? For the ABC’s Your Mental Health week, some familiar faces have written a letter to their younger self about some of the mental health challenges they faced growing up.

Designed to enlighten, empower and inspire their ‘younger self’ by passing on some advice from their older, and sometimes wiser, point of view.

From 5-11 July, in partnership with Lifeline and Kids Helpline, ABC will shine a light on mental health and wellbeing to help those struggling with the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, bushfires and drought.

I would be so lost without Hamish. And andy. And so sad. I've listened since I was a little boy. I watched every special. I got through into and then out of hard drugs when I was 14-17 by going on long walks instead and listening to the podcast. I've been homeless since April and the podcast has been a source of happiness i haven't felt otherwise. I was on the show and won soemthing in 2018 when I was 18! But I didn't care, because I made Hamish Blake laugh. I cried after they hung up. I regularly re-watch this. If i can ever afford it I will get a H&A logo tattoo, I will forever been in their debt. I've never had a great relationship with my father, Hamish has been my main male role model since I can remember.

Thank you Hame, you are a good man, hilarious and a genuine inspiration to me. If i could be a fraction of the man Hamish is I will have lived a good life. I'm 21 now. I've had trouble with the idea of God, but I pray; i PRAY to be just like you in the rest of the time i have left. Have fun, look out for your mates, take like less seriously.
