I am speaking from a position of being raised in Catholocism and having had embraced it all until I totally rejected it along with God and his Son at age 15. I was terribly lost and I had tried in vain to find God in Catholocism. The priests were alcoholics and so was my father. I suddenly realized I had never heard ONE sermon warning against the snare of alcohol. And that is hard to preach when you center your service around communion and using real wine daily. Priests drink daily just by performing their duty of "saying Mass". They have stores of "communion wine" which they regularly tap into outside of saying mass. At age 22 I responded to the true gospel and was saved. I also responded to an altar call at age 7 in my school "chapel service" but my sincerely Catholic mother told me I didn't need to do that since I had been baptized as an infant. Still, Jesus took my heart and he preserved me and led me to the Father by the Holy Spirit. I am now 71 years old and have found Jesus to be true, to be my healer, my light, the lover of my soul, and my deliverer from the very false and fearful religion of Catholocism. People can be saved in Catholocism, but it is in spite of the teachings, not because of them. There are some good teachings in that church and I'm sure I benefitted from them. I did learn the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes. I did learn to reverence God and I did hear that Jesus was the Son of God and died to save humanity. The gospel is contained in Catholocism but it is clouded by so many other false teachings. Very few Catholics hear the direct invitation to a personal salvation and exchange with Christ. And the church authority is false and based on false claims of authenticity. We don't "know them" by their roots. We know them by their fruits! The Catholic church makes false claims about its roots and that is how they deceive. So history is a big subject for them. But they teach what they are taught (tradition is considered equal to scripture) and they leave out all the surrounding factual information about early Christians outside of Rome. Thank you for your courage to counter the errors you are hearing from poor Candace. Tragic loss for the cause of truth.
