There’s nothing to go there to see in the centre of the town. Thanks to the proactive Council, plans are ongoing to ensure that the emptiness of Basildon is addressed. That’s the idea behind the ongoing multi-million-pound project of redevelopment of the town. Soon those empty shops will be converted into entertainment complexes and affordable housing. 2. It’s Not Easy to Attain Success There Imagine a town with a few success stories! Have you ever wondered why not many people in Basildon town have attained an admirable level of success? Things making for success are simply lacking in the town. There’s no university that can encourage education and learning of skills that are essential for success in life. Since there’s no motivation, the standard of education is generally low in the town. Unable to find value in it, many school-age wards abandon their education. Many people in the town are on benefits. There are not many nice houses there. But please, mark our words. Those descriptions are well qualified and the assertions are neither sweeping nor in an absolute sense. We’ve seen brilliant and successful people from Basildon who have done well for themselves.

Full disclosure. Not from Basildon but I am an Essex girl. I find it fascinating how much this channel loves London but without considering the negative sides to it. And how negative it is about places that aren’t London. So many of your sweeping statement negatives about Basildon could be applied to most of England including London, particularly in relation to crime and gangs. As for saying there’s no history, I’d argue you need to dig a bit deeper than a quick google. No culture? No reference to Depeche Mode, Alison Moyet, etc. No mention of the sculptures at least one of which is now Grade II listed. No mention of the modern history of these new towns or how they have changed the landscape of the south east. There’s no uni but there doesn’t need to be; there are several close by. I’m not saying it’s a perfect utopia but Basildon is very much a victim of hindsight being 20/20. The town planners of the era did a great job at catering for society at the time, but could not have foreseen the impact of the internet or big box stores. Essex has many towns like this and it’s a multifaceted issue. It really isn’t something that can be condensed down into a ten minute video, though I appreciate the attempt at neutrality.

I spent my teens there, through the days of the Essex Boyz and never felt unsafe- they might have been a bunch of hard men but also gentlemen- I loved living there I would trade it for the malicious and vicious gossips village I live in Wales - few success- Depache mode, Vince Clark, Alison Moët there are so m as my talented musicians from Basildon - has a really good college and a uni 1/2 hour train journey- Watt Tyler Park ! The market is great!

Have you ever been to Basildon before. Maybe you should go there and see if Basildon is a bad town. The only problem is that Basildon does have problems with anti-social behaviour and chavs roaming around causing trouble.

Empty shop units....that`s every town centre these days. the only shops that seem to be open and keep opening are coffee shops, cafe`s and mobile and vape shops.
