In Arbortetum, having the highest total value of a particular species tree in your hand at the end of a round allows that player to score for that species. Having a 1-value card in hand of a particular species cancels out the 8-value card of the same species regardless of whom is holding said 8-value card. The 1-value card doesn't trump it. Both cards values are removed from species totals in hand.

Hello Friends, Are you a fan of trees or birds or both? Which of these two games do you think is better. Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
Rules Clarification: For ties in Songbirds, the next bird species with the highest total sum in the row or column gains those berry points.

I've played Arboretum a couple of times (friends copy) at 3 player count and found it quite stressful despite the theme and beautiful cards. You're right about the scoring too, it's like knitting fog the first time!
Songbirds looks interesting but I already have Piepmatz which I enjoy at 2, 3 and 4 players. A nice portable card game with great bird artwork, just beware the pesky squirrels and crows.

Just discovered your channel and subscribed! Really enjoying the quality of your videos! My wife and I are avid birders so we'll have to look into purchasing Songbirds.

This may have been something you said and I missed it, but in Arboretum, it's the sum of ALL of one species in your hand that allows you to score. For example, if one player has the 1 and the other has the 8 and a 2, the 1 may negate the 8, but the player with the 2 would still gain the right to score. Also, sorry if you already said that! I totally may have misunderstood your explanation. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!

I've got both these games and love both. I think Songbirds is a bit more forgiving and less of a brain burner so probably easier to get to the table. That - and I joined a birdwatching group at the end of 2022 lol! And it's got a solo mode which, as far as I'm aware, Arboretum doesn't?? Thanks for the great video! 😃👍
