Hi! Western New Yorker (Rochester) here. I'm an environmental technician/ecologist and I'm constantly walking around the wilderness out here. Surprisingly, my only cryptic story comes from my childhood. My friends and I were camping when we were about 12 at our hunting cabin that was right next to Ganondagon - the historical site where a massive battle occured between the French and the Natives that lived there. As we were hanging out, acting silly as teenagers do, a sudden eruption of sound happened as it sounded like people had surrounded our cabin and started pounding on it. We almost immediately grabbed flashlights and looked around the cabin, even underneath it, and found nothing. While I haven't seen anything out of ordinary in the hundreds of miles of backpacking for work and pleasure in the NY back-country, I can confirm that NY is one of the creepiest places in the states. We are the home of Sleepy Hollow after all.

My grandfather lived in the catskill mountain when he was in his 50's and 60's. He used to carry a club with him when he went on walks because he saw "panthers" in the woods.

The mountain lions are there, people just don't want to admit it.

My dad works near Whitehall and maps hiking trails one time he was mapping trails fro the ymca and they walked out about 10 miles down the trail he thought that people who believe in Bigfoot are Crackheads but as he was mapping he heard what sounded like a foot stomping and about ten minutes later a good sized rock came flying out of a bush hitting the tree next to him he stopped and waited and a deer came flying out of the woods with no care and almost hitting him and was just like oh it’s nothing I probably scared it about a day later he was driving home he saw what he discribed as a gorilla running across the road with red ish brown fur now he is a believer for life

I live on the shores of Seneca Lake. Besides the sea serpent we also have The Seneca Guns. These are loud explosion type noises that classify as 'sky trumpets'. I have heard these on two different occasions in the 9 years I have lived here. I have not seen the sea serpent...

Here in Michigan the DNR tried to cover up the fact we have mountain lions here too until a overwhelming amount of evidence came forward and proved it. Pictures, game camera footage, and fresh cattle kills and the DNR came out and admitted that Michigan does in fact have Mountain lions!

Authorities in many states deny the cougar population. They don't want to panic people, and they don't want to spend time and money reacting to that panic. As always, interesting.

Wild Speculation

The Kinderhook Blob was a small Atmospheric Beast. Also known as the Medford Smoos and Crawfordville Monster. Atmospheric Beasts are similar to a Portuguese Man o'War, a colony of animals. Some hold bubbles of hydrogen in their jelly like flesh and others become thin feeding tentacles. They filter feed on bacteria in the upper atmosphere. They are smelly and damp.

I and my mother were up in NYC back in the late 1990's and we actually saw a couple of near giant rats that had to be about the size of dachshunds,
This was at night when we were looking down at the East River towards Lower Manhattan near Roosevelt Island where there was a sewer pipe down by the water that was lite up by the city lights, these two rats looked like they had to be at least two feet long from head to tail,
Maybe they weren't cryptids but they were still scary looking. I've been up to NYC since then and seen rats but nothing close to those two sewer rodents we saw back then.

Great video, I lived in Shanopple NY, about 28 miles south of baseball hall of fame Cooperstown, we were living in 2006 on top of a mountain, more then its share of wildlife, one night I had to go to town and I thought I saw one of our dogs, it was a light fawn color and ran across the road and up a 15 foot embankment, Lol, I stop the jeep and yell up embankment “Jesse” and got the biggest growl and snarl I ever heard that made my skin crawl, it was a mountain lion with like 3-4 foot tail, me, I burnt rubber getting out of there and when I went back home, I took the long way lol

When my wife was a girl of 6 here family were picnicking on the shores of Lake Champlain. Exploring she walked out to the end of a small pier. As she turned to return to the family she heard a noise behind her, she turned and as she looked two small child sized hands appeared at the end of the dock. they were webbed and blackish is color, suddenly a small black head popped up. That's when she screamed and ran back to the family telling her parents what she had seen. Because she was scared and sobbing her father went to see what this was all about. There at the end of the pier he saw two small wet hand like prints. Well that's when the picnic ended. Later she heard her father relating the story to his fishing buddies who responded which their own strange lake stories. Her mother, who was an excellent swimmer never swam in the lake again.
