Fun fact: just this year a Tolkien text from Middle-Earth was published in the original english for the very first time, a poem called "The Complaint of Mim the Dwarf" (Mim being a important character in Silmarillion/The Children of Hurin). It's astonishing there's still "new" Middle-Earth material left to publish!

Men like Tolkien should live hundreds of years to be able to complete their work

Christopher never gets his dues realistically, he was every bit as brilliant as his father. Christopher's sons have destroyed their fathers legacy before it even began. While Chris only enhanced and prolonged his fathers legacy.

My school library (I was there 76-84) didn't have Lord of the Rings, but they did have The Silmarillion, undoubtedly a first ed. Had it in my hands many times, but I won't claim to have been as enthusiastic about it as I was LotR.

Thank you for mentioning Guy Gavriel Kay! He's a truly amazing author in his own right.

I am under the complete impression that Tolkien actually lived in that world and was beautifully sharing his memories with us.

I forgot that Guy Gavriel Kay helped with the Silmarillion. Absolutely underrated fantasy author.

Thank you for these special videos. They are as beautifully crafted as many of the rare bindings with which you bless our eyes and souls.

Such a legacy from JRRT and his youngest son Christopher, just hoping more come out. Thank you for bringing this to light, would love a longer version ( and yes I'm a fan of Tolkien, but that's irrelevant as his language, its use, choice of wording etc are mind grabbing) ⭐⭐⭐👏👏👏

I remember coming across The Silmarillion WAAAY back in the 90s (around 97 or 98) in a small second-hand store in Manila. I'd always loved Tolkien and to find a hard-bound of that book was a special moment for me. Didn't have the dust jacket, but had a lovely stamped cover. Also had a lovely inscription on the flyleaf (no, not Christopher Tolkien's 😆😆😆). When I moved to Singapore, it's one of a few books that I brought with me.

The Silmarillion is a unique piece of literature. It is transcendently spiritual, and can be read and reread many, many times with new lessons learned from each reading. I am so grateful to Christopher Tolkien for seeing this masterwork published for the world.

See this narrated by Peregrin Took makes it all the more fantastic and compelling...

One of THE HARDEST books to comprehend. The amount of names and character and places was overwhelming. The stories beautiful and heartbreaking. A perfect read for anyone that love LoTR and the Hobbit

I like Christopher Tolkien because he is a prime example of how to carry on the legacy of a great writer. He didn’t over ride or try to add to much to the wonderful world his father created; essentially, he didn’t make middle earth his own thing. Frank Herbert’s son, Brian Herbert, did the opposite. He has published 1 book a year about the dune universe for almost a quarter of a century now using little or none of his father’s notes or sometimes even established history. In Brian’s defense he didn’t have an excess of notes like Christopher did, but at the same time Brian herbert showed zero impulse control and blatantly added on to his father’s universe. I haven’t met a legit Dune fan who has read all six books who considers Brian’s “contributions” canon, and I do t either though I gave them fair chance.

Ive read hobbit + lotr thrice, children of hurin twice, but silmarillion im never able to finish. Ive tried two different times, but i zone out after the fall of nargrothrond. In the end i watched every single video of Nerd of The Rings twice, so now caught up with all of the lore.

Technically LOTR is composed of 6 books that were, to Tolkien's disliking, divided into 3 volumes

I am fortunate enough to have acquired several books signed by the late Christopher Tolkein including 2 different prints of the silmarillion.... I am still in search of a signed copy of "The Fall of Gondolin" to finally finish my collection....

His son is a legend, like his father was, just for that dedication alone

Christopher Tolkien‘s dedication to publishing his father’s work in a form true to the original writings with less regard for the reader‘s convenience (and therefore potential sales) than for the authenticity of his father‘s writing is just amazing. It set the tone for quality above all else and even publications after CJRT‘s death follow his model (like Nature of Middle-Earth, The Fall of Numenor and so forth).
How much is a signed copy of The Silmarillion worth?
