The best first language in my opinion is Python, but JavaScript is the best 1st if you are most interested in web programming. Feel free to ask questions

Derek, the "I'm 100% book taught. I never could afford college" part got my attention. I am 72, no college, all self taught, and developing applications (forms and reports) for Oracle 11g. Thank you so much for doing this for all of us who choose to pay attention to good advice.

I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Basically you should almost always use getElementById. It is the W3C standard way of grabbing that element. To access the actual element from the DOM with its methods you must use getElementById. When I accessed the element directly in document I didn't need those methods. I used to have the belief that it is better to show everything, but now I tend to only show the right way. I hope that makes sense

You have to know the basics of javascript. I'm going to be doing an android games tutorial very soon with Java. I have dramatically improved on this tutorial in my new JavaScript Video Tutorial. It is more interactive

I'd love to cover Ruby as well. I just keep getting caught in very large tutorials. I'm very happy that you enjoy them. I do my best to make the best videos that I can. I'm lucky to have found a community that enjoys large tutorials like this that are packed with information. I doubt most people could handle them

This JavaScript tutorial is better in hearing the teachings, but the faster one is better in showing you how it is done. The music needs to go because it is distracting when trying to learn something. I do find your tutorials much better than some of them I have seen on here and JavaScript is kind of hard to learn after learning HTML. but yours are the best tutorials I have watched so far. Good job!
