The Kill Switch: How does it work?

I like kill switches on some of my guitars. But, how do they work? let's dive in and see by looking at what is actually going on with the fuitar's circuit when you use one.
I will not be opening up the switch but will be showing what happens by using the jack instead. it does not matter where you are in the circuit; if the main output hot wire touches anything that is grounded, it will do the same thing.

This is good information for the uninformed. However, the video quality is mediocre . Maybe the gentleman who spoke was nervous or having a bad day? The lighting was constantly changing as he moved around.
