What lead to this idea was the 16-Bit OST, known as Project Genesis.

What is this mod? It's a big collaborative project that both Luks_18 & kkirby999 commissioned themselves to JX (composer of the 16-bit OST) to recreate practically the entire soundtrack of SA2 into 16-bits and put in the game as a mod.

Aside from the soundtrack. I was doing some random exploring on different filters you can use for OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) and came across a 16-bit filter which felt like a perfect fit.

Next to that, the custom re-textured stage I was referring to is 16-Bit Green Hill Zone.

This simple mod overhauls Green Hill to be more accurate to the original Sonic 1. The textures are ripped from Sonic 1. The music is ripped directly from the 2013 remastered version of Sonic 1. Plus, the stage and player sounds are sourced from Sonic 3K.
