Our main ally is each other. If we want a strong prosperous Europe we have to get rid of veto and become more united than ever before. Daddy USA will not always be around to help us and fight our wars for us.

the EU should go its own way when it aligns with the USA thats great but they should not just follow blindly

One of the few small positives about Trump in the White House is that hopefully the rest of the world will stop treating the US as the de facto center of everything and start making new ties around the US. The sooner the world steps away from central, over-powerful nations/markets like the US (and China), the safer we will all be.
PS: I'm over 50.

The USA will always be a important ally but doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be more independent militarily and in other sectors especially since the eu lost parity with the USA since 08 and the USA seems to no value their allies like before, we should also seek more international partnerships, i don’t think would hurt either.

Imagine thinking China is your top ally 😂

I highly doubt that 10% view China as a top ally. As for US, there is no doubt the majority of Europeans view it as our top ally. That doesn’t mean that Europe shouldn’t get stronger geopolitically, and with a bigger army of course.

The EU is not an ally of the US...is a colony client state

The fact that the US saying: “okay guys, we can’t do literally everything for every other country on earth all at once, we need you to At least invest something into your military and industry to help out” causes EU citizens to think the US isn’t their top ally is just insane

We should keep our relations with the US strictly on trade and business opportunities.
For the rest, Europe needs to conduct its own self reliance, The US proven itself not always to be reliable when its about help that´s really needed for Ukraine..

Notice the language, "top ally". Im not surprised a european country might view a neighbor as a "top ally". Rephrase the question to "top 3 ally" and see what happens.

More than half of US citizens see EU as a liability. So thanks for not seeing US as top ally anymore.

EU should reduce dependence on US, but that doesn't mean reducing cooperation.

Most Europeans know, that the USA is nearest to european heritage in culture and values. Modern America is an offspring of Europe. That UK is shown here as "foreign" Partner looks ridicules. UK is part of West Europe and NATO. They leaved EU community because of "toxic" influence of Brussel dictates. Especialle belonging to Migration and Populationpolitics. But the main motive for the Brexit was the hope, that UK will therewith become the former old British Empire again. And not a slave of a stupid EU burocracy. If EU-Europeans abandon partnership with USA, which alternatives are possible ? China was the only shown. But China is a hard rival of Europe and acts similar like USA in purchasing away our european companies. And which other "Partners" are prefered ? Russia is especially famous in Victor Orban Hungary, Serbia, Gerogia and increasingly Romania and similar old Sowjet territories. --- What Europe needs indead is to become adult. Inside NATO the USA may substantially withdraw their contribution. So for Europeans more defense spending and more strategic autonomy is necessary. But as long as the USA did not completely withdraw from NATO, the western states community will continue like it is since 1945.

EU: Do you think that it is time for the EU to go its own way? Agree 63%, Disagree 37%
US: Do you think that it is time for the US to go its own way? Agree 35%, Disagree 65%
Very interesting and understandable results. I believe this is caused by the US's weak (Biden) and appeasement (Trump) attitude toward Russia.
Now that Trump is back, there will be more US Skepticism in Europe.

This was never about allies. It was always about the Empire pulling the strings on its European vassals.
