Rack Extensions for Reason and Reason Essentials

Показать описание

Meet some of the developers bringing Rack Extension devices to Reason's rack! Rack Extensions allow 3rd party developers to bring their expertise, sounds, and inspiring workflow into Reason by merging some of the best elements of typical plugin expandability with the best elements of Reason's ongoing commitment to stability, efficiency, and musicality.

In this video you'll get a look at some of the first Rack Extensions to arrive in Reason's rack, hear direct from the developers themselves and, most importantly, see just how massive this expansion will be for your music.

Reason is really growing in to an increasingly impressive piece of software. I love the workflow within reason, and with the recording capabilities and now the plugins(rack extentions), I'm getting less and less reasons to use any other software in my music production. GREAT WORK GUYS!

Agreed. I've been watching their evolution with the last couple of versions. I'm an Ableton/Maschine user but I also own a copy of Reason 5.5 and Record. The thing that turned me off the most was the lack of 3rd party plugins support but this right here is genius. Plus I know that have NI on board as Rack developers. Exciting things are about to happen.

Glad you found it. We changed the name because we added some functionality to it. In the past you could only "Initialize patch" on a device that had a patch browser and patch saving ability. But now you can "Reset" any device even if it doesn't have the ability to load or save patches of its own... like Pulsar, the M-Class devices and some other devices. Now EVERYTHING can be reset...we just had to change the name and yes, it took me a few seconds to find it too the first time. :)

This is for Reason 6.5 and beyond. Reason 6.5 is a free upgrade for Reason 6 users, though. There's a ton of new technology under the hood in 6.5 to make Rack Extensions possible. It wouldn't be possible to just make them work in older versions of Reason because there's a lot more going on than just the rack device interface you see and use.

Sorry, that was just me and not a real song... it's a song I made for the video while I was editing so I had a music bed. :) Propellerhead has a Soundcloud page and the song is there in a playlist called "Video Tracks." I'd link you to it but Youtube doesn't allow linking in comments. :( The song's name on SoundCloud is "Acapulco."

Yes definitely, there are some people who would love to use hardware synths with Reason... And I am one of them.

You're completely right. Rack Extensions will let you load new effects and instruments into the Reason rack that have been created by other companies. In fact, many early Rack Extensions will likely be Reason versions of plug-ins already on the market since that's what companies already have to work with in creating devices. Where Rack Extensions differ from plugins is that they integrate well with Reason in every way you have come to expect: wiring, combinators, automation, and workflow.

The rock track is a demo song in Reason 6 called "Unglamorous" by Freeway feat. Lina Hansson. The other two electronic tracks were done by me (my name is Ryan and I make the vids) because I needed music with a certain mood for the video and it was easier to make it myself than look around for the right match. :)

Rack Extensions work with Reason Essentials 1.5. If you're using Reason Essentials 1.0 you just need to install the free upgrade to 1.5. Hope this helps.

Really can't wait for this to launch!

You won't be disappointed at all. With the record addition at 6.0. Reason has ultimately become a true DAW, and not just a 'techno-toy'.

Not really solo. I've released music under a duo called Techno Squirrels but it's been a few years since we put anything out. I'm always working on music still, though.

This is great news! I do own and love R4 and did not upgrade, but now, after struggling with Live 8 + VSTs crashing and burning for quiet a long time, i'll get R6 (or 6.5?) and probably say goodbye to Live. IMHO, is not a matter of which host/daw "sounds" better. It's all about having fun composing music without all these interruptions in the workflow. I do love Live and all my VSTs, but i've been having a hard time finding the inspiration and the will to make music. Go, Props! :)
