The current military planning process includes a listing and discussion of assumptions, which leads to a list of intelligence targets, for scouts and other reconnaissance. Planners also come up with a list of constraints, which may be a closer match for what the panel means when they mention assumptions.

While do so many say - and repeat - how excited they are? It's become a VERY tiresome cliché that is empty of useful (or exciting!) information for the viewer/listener.
