USMLE STEP 1 Biostatistics (3 of 4)

This is the 3rd video of 4 recorded in Dallas, TX. This was the beginning of the second hour and starts with quick review and eventually leads into the Null Hypothesis which is pretty much guaranteed to be see on STEP 1. Many concepts are quickly talked about and are fair game but NULL HYPOTHESIS is a must know. Hope this helps.

This was corrected by someone in his problem-solving video, but I'll go ahead and do it here as well: For correlation graphs, the correlation coefficient corresponds to the STRENGTH of the correlation, not the slope of the line. So, if you had all your dots in a perfect line going upward, your correlation coefficient would be 1.0. If the dots were going in a perfect line downward, then your coefficient would be -1.0. If you had dots scattered about in a somewhat upward fashion, it would probably be something like 0.5. If the dots are all over the place and you can't really detect a pattern of positive or negative correlation, then the coefficient is close to zero. The slope of the line doesn't matter at all, except whether it is negative or positive. It's a minor point, but one you don't want to miss. Google 'correlation coefficient' for a better explanation if it still doesn't make sense. Good luck!

P.S. The correlation coefficient is calculated by taking data related to the standard deviation and doing math to it that's beyond the scope of Step 1.
