This song reminds me of this:

-The soldier is when a person is still young, and isn't mature. They fight for things they think are right. They don't accept others' opinions.

-The poet is when a person is halfway to being mature. They use the experience they gained to argue with someone without throwing hands.

-The ruler is when a person is fully matured. They know what's best, and don't fight with other people. They wish to be young again sometimes, but they regret their first decisions.

I get it now. The soldier wants to be the ruler. The ruler wants to be the poet. The poet wants to be the soldier.

I personally see the song as about just ONE person:

-A Soldier when he was young & hot blooded through war and conquest.

-A Poet when he became more mature & educated through proper learning of the fine arts.

-A King when he learned wisdom and responsibility to rule a realm of his own.

That is my belief 🙇🏽

The Soldier fights endlessly, but wants control, and respect, making the soldier want to be the ruler. The poet is powerful, yet doesn’t know how to use his power, and isn’t brave, making him want to be the solider. The ruler didn’t chose to be a ruler, and desires freedom, making the ruler want to be the poet.
