Quick Tutorial: Factoring Trinomials Using AC Method

Learn how to factor trinomial using the AC method. This is a pre-requisite skill for solving quadratic equations by factoring. This standard is a part of the algebra 1 factoring and quadratics curriculum.

There are actually a number of variations of the AC method. The one you are using is the AC method + Grouping. Personally, I prefer using an area model or even the Australian approach for factoring Quadratics. I think it looks cool. With this being said, I think it's also good to have a version of the Guess-and-Check approach in your back pocket as well -- in case the numbers start getting big when you multiply AC. Good job teaching, though.

Is there any method you can use to find those two numbers without using trial and error/guess and check? This year I used such a method but I can't find my notes so I'm unable to remember. It may have had something to do with prime factorization or factoring trees, but I'm not a 100% sure. I do remember that this method was quick and easy - especially when c had a big value. Because of that method, I scored well in school...but I just can't seem to remember. By any chance would you know how to do this?
