Probably didn’t hurt that his father was an absolute legendary coach for the Rainbow Wahine volleyball team. Imagine learning the game from somebody with an .850+ winning percentage - over a 40 year career. Then imagine growing up on an island where UH volleyball players were legitimate local celebrities whose games were played to sold out crowds of 10, 000 people and broadcast on local TV - in the 80s before the internet meant everything got recorded and streamed.
