I was going to get the 750Gb version, which has a nice 8Gb cache over the 4Gb cache in the 500Gb. But, on discount the 500Gb is half the cost, so I went with that one. Seriously significant improvement, enough for my needs. I'm very glad I did it.

The only caveat, which nobody ever mentions in these videos, is that the 7200rpm spinning platter has more power drain. Thus, a laptop running on battery power will run down faster.

Awesome idea from Seagate, I didn't know about the speed boost though. That looks even more awesome but I'm not sure if the speed boost will learn as well as the Momentus XT.

he is talking about a vs. test what you do and how you use the drive is not the issue they were addressing. But you are right i boot up with ssd and have programs that i want to run fast on their as well, but for all my other stuff hdd it its.

@TheCircuitSmith In theory, the all the xt does is cache frequently used data. In a RAID configuration, the drives would (in theory) just cache whatever data is loaded frequently... which could create speed problems if different drive cache different data.

Hi, that was a great video. Though one question remains: what's the performance like when the HDD drive is fragmented, does the 4-8 GB cache takes that variable into consideration? Just curious.
