So true! Thank you for this reminder. So frustrating that even 1/8 inch can throw things off so much.

Omg! Yessss.I am a perfectionist, self taught no one in my family has ever quilted and have found that NO quilt is perfect and I was constantly comparing my stuff to others and felt so inferior. Also use the products you can afford, if you can only afford fabric from Walmart then use it there is no quilt police.

This video is so helpful. I've been watching YouTube quilting videos for a couple of years now. I think it's time to stop trying to follow and manage all of the videos because there isn't enough time to make all the quilts and watch them. I like your channel. I found your channel a few weeks ago, and what I like the most is you always seem so cheerful and helpful! Just what I'm looking for!

Oh Christen, you hit the nail on head! I totally needed this information. As a beginner, I feel more confused watching different quilters giving me hints and how to’s. I will definitely heed your advice but, definitely continue to follow you! As always, you are awesome, thank you.

Kristen, these are great tips. I was listenng to way too many 'experts' that all had different styles! Very confusing so I started watching YouTube. Then I found you!! I love your explanations❣️❣️

Another great video with advice for the novices out there. So many videos today stress speed and not accuracy. As a long time quilter I applaud you for saying the things some people don’t want to hear and being encouraging at the same time. Keep it up.

Thanks for another great set of tips. I live in a remote part of Western Australia, no quilting buddies, no craft shops, no lessons etc. My teacher is people like you so I thank you enormously for the time you take sharing your knowledge. My light bulb moment from this is accuracy. Of course I knew the importance of cutting and sewing precisely but did I really take it on board, no. So thank you for bringing that to my attention, I resolve to practice my accuracy all the time.

I just found your channel recently. I'm enjoying watching your videos.
I am an avid crocheter, but recently I've been looking at getting into doing some quilts for a way to give my hands a break with doing a different activity. I think my first quilt(s) will start from jelly rolls.
I've made my own clothing in the past (including my wedding dress) so quilting sounds like an ideal choice. Thanks for all your inspiration and tips along the way!
Be good, be jolly, and stay beautiful.

The one thing I still can't stand doing is cutting fabric! I use mainly pre cuts in my quilting for that main reason. I've been sewing/quilting for about 3 years now and I'm only just beginning to get to that "not screwing up as much" stage LOL! All your tips are spot on, thanks so much for sharing!!

I made my first quilt in 1978. No rotary cutters, no plastic templates! I keep that quilt to remind me of how far I’ve come. Whenever I get discouraged, I take it out, have a laugh, and keep going. Some of my favorite quilts are just 5 inch squares. And don’t compare yourself to others! Best advice given here. Oh, and accuracy! Keep it simple and you will know when to move on to harder patterns. Happy quilting!

Great advice. I would also suggest that you watch YouTube channels that have a lot of subscribers. I have seen some teachers that showed nesting seams the wrong way, never join binding or borders on the diagonal, and never square blocks. I've sewn 67 years. Also start small. Don't expect to piece a California King top and quilt like a master quilter. Sew some charms together the quilt them. This increases your confidence.

i love the comment about focusing on like 10-15 people. i just recently did that! i was getting so confused about everything! so i sat back and purged my youtube channels. i looked back and saw who i was saving the most info from and why i was saving it. if it was just for patterns they went, i could get patterns as i needed them anytime. if i only saved 1-2 videos of tutorials out, most likely someone i liked better had the same info anyway. i ended up with 15 channels, but only 10 of them are actual quilting channels. the other 5 are quilting/sewing channels that are helping me to sew better in general. and 1 of the quilting channels is Darlene Marchaud. i have a bit of trouble with perfectionism. and watching her reminds me that it's ok, not to be perfect. especially while i'm learning. That nothing i am making will be showroom quilts, but functional quilts that will be used and abused. lol and that if i REALLY screw something up, my local vet's office will love it just the same, the dogs & cats don't care if the points don't match, my lines aren't straight. or my cuts are a little off. they just care if it's warm. that's where most of my practice/learning quilts are going to go right now. until i get a handle on what i'm doing, that and pillows. haha

Hi Christine, I’m an older, new person into quilting, so…like the others I watch here on the U-tube channel, I learn things from everyone, and then decide how I’ll do my sewing, my ways. So..thank you for how you do your type of quilting.

So I’m late to the party, however I am in the planning stage of my first quilt. Honestly I would have already started it but I live I. Colorado and have 10 inches of new snow. I need a base fabric and will wait for a clear day. You are the most encouraging person. Thanks! (Liked and subscribed) 😎
