Earlier this week, the Union government released an update on the estimates of economic growth for the current financial year (2021-22 or FY22). The so-called Second Advance Estimates of GDP are more credible than the First Advance Estimates (which were released in January) because they incorporate the GDP data from the third quarter (October to December).
D K Joshi is the Chief Economist of CRISIL, one of India's premier credit rating firms, and in this episode of The Express Economist he explains how to make sense of the GDP estimates as well as points out the key challenges facing the Indian economy over the coming year.
