I Love the disco era, but I have never heard of her. I can’t recall any of her music, but I do remember her sister. May she be Resting In Peace 💐💐💐💐

I am glad that Sharon has a few more eyes on her now as she was a dope artist. If you were in the club scene back then there was no way you would not know who she was. Can You Handle It was a monster track that was heavily played in the clubs and on mixshows. Francois K did a legendary dope remix of this that was originally produced by Willie Lester and Rodney Brown. Just to put this in chronological order, the Soiree group he mentioned with Luther and Jocelyn(Fonzi Thornton, Yogi Horton and Woody Cunningham and Norman Durham from the group Kleeer), came before Sharon signed her contract with Prelude(1979). The Panorama label that Love Insurance was originally signed on was run by Cory Robbins who would start Profile Records a couple years later. Sharon's Redd Hott album was produced by Eric Matthew(Gary's Gang-Keep On Dancin fame) and had the gorgeous Never Give You Up on it. If you don't know it please listen to it. Soo good. RIP Sharon Redd and thank you.

I'm from São Paulo, Brazil. In 1982 I was 17, and I used to listen to this song in some radios, that had DJs who performed live mixes of R&B, disco and funk songs. Sharon Redd had an incredible and rare voice... Her death in 1992 was a great loss for music. May she R.I.P.

Started following Sharon Red during her Formerly the Harlettes days. Saw them perform at the Bottom Line in Greenwich Village. I still have all of her records. She was a talented singer who was on the cusp of fame. Her untimely death was tragic.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Never Give You Up it's funny because a lot of people confuse her with Sharon Brown who sang "I Specialize in Love" which was released on Profile Records.

Thank you SO MUCH for doing this! My favorite is a tie between "Can You Handle It!" and "Beat The Street, " but her featured vocal on "Does Your Mama Know?" with "Formerly Of The Harlettes" is highly noteworthy. Great job!

All Of Sharon Redd's Songs Are My Favorite 🌹⛅🪻🌿

Sharon Redd's music was
from the time when Disco
went back underground. A
lot of the best music came
from Prelude Records. All
those songs like...

"Can You Handle It"

"You Got My Love"

"Beat The Street"

"Love How You Feel"

(and even though it
was more of a White
club/Gay club song)

"In The Name Of Love"

...are all good examples
of the funkier, darker, edgier
productions from those days.

When the 12" versions of
these records came thundering
out the speakers it was fire.👊🏾🔥

Her records were played by L.A. DJs in the gay clubs back in the day. Her hottest record to me was "Beat the Streets" but "Can You Handle It" and "In the Name of Love" got a lot of play as well. I still play her greatest hits album when I'm feeling nostalgic for that Prelude Records sound. I also saw her live at Circus Disco on "Boys Night Out", which was on Tuesday nights. Her performance was really fun. She somehow got entangled in the microphone cord and had to stop the show to free herself, laughing it off as we did. ( I saw Mary Wells, Linda Hopkins, Alicia Bridges, and The Menergy Girls at the same legendary disco, now long closed). Great personality. Lovely lady, and no, she is not forgotten by us dancers from a magical time when funky and soulful grooves and FUN ruled despite the arrival of a MONSTER (AIDS) that began killing us.

I STILL love disco music. By the way, disco NEVER died. It just doesn't go by that name anymore.
