Tracie (Tracie Young) The Tube 1983 interview

Tracie interviewed by Jools Holland on The Tube November 4th 1983. Recorded by me using a Betamax sony C6 MK1 and Sony L750 videotape. Young was discovered by The Jam frontman, Paul Weller, through an advertisement in Smash Hits magazine for his Respond Records label. Tracie performed with The Jam and The Style Council. She had UK hit singles in March 1983 with "The House That Jack Built" and in July with "Give it Some Emotion"

CWOAAAAR! She has that shy/coy/confident mix that drove me crazy when I was a teenager.
Still does if I'm honest. Not the most original voice but you can see why Weller chose her.
She's in tune and she lit up the stage, and if she looked at you, you melted...

Pure nostalgia for me but only because of the time, I only vaguely remember this singer but I like her dry sense of humour!! As someone else said on another video, all the women looked like her at that time in the 1980s. They all wore/mauve/blue eyeshadow and pink lipstick and the style of hats she wore. Takes me straight back to being at school. 40 years ago, 41 years in fact. Gone so quickly, the time.
