As a bulgarian that studies greek, I wish I was asked those questions rn 😔

Edit: Woah what a random debate in the replies… Yes I used to study Ancient Greek (which is really important, etymology is cool af guys) and now I got into English Philology as my Uni career where I chose to study Modern Greek as a second language. I LOVE languages, I also know Spanish and Russian, and I don’t care about yall saying that Greek is unnecessary to learn (which is false), because my reason is simply because I like learning languages, periodt.

It took me longer to answer the second question and I'm Greek 💀

It’s not 24. 24 is the languages of the European Parliament and not the official languages of the EU which include legal languages of the courts and parliaments of all EU states. A great example of this would be the Luxembourg, as a state, does not have its official language of Luxembourgish as a language of the Parliament.

With spain, the courts of the devolved regions: galicia catalunya and the basque country all have schooling and jurisprudence in their official languages of gallego catala and euskera. My daughter went to school and learned only catalan and that applies to the whole of catalunya.

On the inverse, the Irish delegation to the parliament conduct business in English at the parliament mostly due to Irish being a minority spoken language of Ireland at present.

So the correct answer to how many languages does the EU have would be 40 to include all recognised and official languages of its states, 25 to include all national languages of its member states.

He was infact asking: how many languages does the European Parliament use.

@lingualizer you have to be precise in your question.
Their are 24 OFFICIAL languages in the EU.
But aprox. 200 languages are spoken in the EU.

And your question was about: "How many languages are their in the EU?"

The 24 languages are just the officially used languages like for like bureaucracy, on documents, etc. In fact there are more than 200 native languages present in the EU and. Due to immigration there would be even more :D

I normally get at least one question right, but this one was tough!

For political reasons, to this day Turkish has not been made one of official languages of EU although it’s an official language of an EU member state.

Wrong, Serbia uses the Cyrillic alphabet, I even know it, I'm Croatian. But maybe you were confused since they also use latin
