First of all, I really enjoy your analysis of Indiana Fever hoops.
I am a very old man who's getting older by the minute, and truth be told, until this season, I never ever paid much attention if any attention to the WNBA. And that is despite being a huge sports fan. I admit I had never heard of the Thomas woman playing with Las Vegas until this season as, like the masses, I started following the WNBA for one reason and one reason only.
That said, I really enjoy your analysis of the Indiana Fever's team. It's not just that I agree with your positions ... it's that your attention to detail and your explanations make you a must-watch podcast.
And now, I am commenting on this particular effort of yours, and how I think you might be off a bit on this, as I think the "herd" mentality of media, or in this case the "heard" mentality has steered the masses way off into an incorrection direction.
Here's what I think happened at the end of the Fever/Storm game ... or near the end to be more exact.
With victory assured, and a timeout called by the Storm, Caitlin Clark was firing up the home crowd and thanking the home crowd for their participation in the game. Part of her route to the team bench during the timeout had her walking near the Storm bench while players were heading there due to the timeout call.
I am guessing that Skylar DIggins-Smith took offense with Caitlin Clark celebrating the win with the Fever fans that were seated right behind the Seattle bench. To show her opinion of Caitlin's exuberance, the Storm player bumped her. from the side while heading to the Storm bench.
Then, during the timeout, I am guessing that Diggins-Smith voiced her opinion of what Clark had done to her coach and teammates, and the Storm coach then went to tell the Fever coach that what Clark had done was out of line and unacceptable at the WNBA level. The Storm coach was supporting her player who was ticked off at Clark's celebration that included being near the Storm bench.
If you watch the coaches debating, Wiggins-Smith is right there with the coaches, and Clark is also paying close attention to the discussion and even gets moved away by a teammate.
So, the coaching debate was about Caitlin Clark's celebration with fans and had nothing to do with sending subs onto the court or not sending subs onto the court. The TV announcers clearly had no clue and their non-educated guess about Christie Sides' late reaction to clearing her bench was really total folly and in this case, 100 pct. wrong.
Now, after the game, Sides refused to comment about the interaction. The reason? It involved the Storm players bitching about Caitlin Clark. If Sides had said to the media that the Storm players were whining about Caitlin celebrating a regular-season victory with fans, absolutely nothing good would have happened.
The Seattle coach in her postgame comments, made a reference to decorum.
Mistakingly, in my opinion, the media picked on the Fever coach non-comment and the Storm coach ambigious comment as referring to the Fever being late with their substitutions. I am guessing that had zero to do with the fracas.
This was all about Caitlin celebration near the Storm bench which, again, she had to walk past to get to her bench. She was engaging with the crowd and the Storm players didn't like it.
The Fever coach couldn't say anything because she'd either have to say Caitlin was wrong and will be told not to do that and get crushed by the internet, or, she could say the Storm players are whiners who don't appreciated a huge crowd going nuts to celebrate a home-team win. At which point, the Storm coach and players would have to voice their anger at Caitlin, and immediately become the most hated team in the "W."
Living where I do, NFL fans here root for two teams: 1) The Bears. 2) Whatever team is playing Green Bay.
That's what the Storm would have faced ... and if you don't think I am right, just consider how much non-positive stuff is directed toward the Chicago Sky team because some in the media insist that the Sky's rookie is having a better season that Caitlin.
To avoid that, both coaches let the lie about clearing the bench too slowly float in the air, and I am sure today are thrilled that the trial balloon stayed afloat, rather than popping and having the real story come out.

The Seattle coach always looked so calm and nice, i never would’ve thought she’s this much of a 🤡.

Not sure why Coach was pissed….not like Fever ran up the score after Storm starters existed.

And why exactly is a player any part of the conversation??

For those who aren’t on Twitter and didn’t see another side of the conversation, there is a theory that there might be another reason why the Seattle Storm team weren’t happy with the Indy Fever. To clarify, I am not siding with Seattle, but simply explaining what could be the other cause of the ‘disagreement’.

Somewhere in the 4th quarter, CC was about to leave the floor and at the same time, she was hyping up the crowd but she also happened to be on the side of Seattle Storm’s court. In a clip on Twitter, SDS ‘bumped’ into CC which ultimately led CC to be near the Storm bench while still hyping the crowd up.

Seattle coach only noticed the end part, and I assume, wanted the ref to tech her again for ‘taunting’ because after she saw CC hyping the crowd near her bench, she immediately looked for the referee nearby.

Obviously, this didn’t work which led to her complaining to Sides about ‘gamesmanship’. There’s also another angle of when this entire thing happening when the jumbotron’s camera was on CC and CC asked with frustration, “Why do you have to worry about me?”. This is also before CC clapped back with another, “Stop crying!” before her teammates held her back from getting another possible tech because at this point, CC already had 5.

For those who don’t know the rules of tech fouls in WNBA, if a player gets a total of 7 tech fouls in a season, they have to sit out one game, which is why her teammates had to hold CC back from getting another foul because they still had 12 games, and they couldn’t afford watching her getting 2 tech fouls in one of those games.

Albeit her tech foul in this particular game is a bit ridiculous (she got tech because she slammed the base of the hoop after she failed to land a shot), it has happened before to other players.

But to those who are also wondering, no, CC is not leading the league in tech foul. That would currently be Diana Taurasi and Natasha Cloud, followed by Kahleah Copper with 6 tech fouls.

It’s etiquette. Not a rule 🤦🏽‍♂️😂
If the other side don’t reciprocate, you just take it like a big girl with the big girl pants on you.

such rude BS from Seattle. There is NO rules saying you have to take starters out if the other team does..Sit down Quinn!

Why is she mad that the fever didn´t know that Seattle wanted to clear their bench? Fever showed last game and this game that they will run out the clock even if the time extends their posession and they take a clock violation turnover for it. This is just soooo cringe from Seattle after Indiana smoked them.

Even if I wanted to keep my starters in there that's up to me to do she don't run 19 I don't care what you do with your bench

That's a technical but Skylar Diggins Smith elbowing Caitlin Clark after the Seattle Storm called time out isn't. Tell me which action is disrespectful to basketball. The league should revoke that Technical on Caitlin Clark and they issue a Flagrant foul & a tech on Skylar Diggins Smith for elbowing Clark and yelling at the opposite teams coach.

If I was a player I would be embarrassed if my coach was angry because of this when we lost.

This coach is an embarrassment.😂

The crowd should have bood her out of the arena. She's just going to tell the other coach what to do? FOH

Most teams keep their star players in, mercury did it last game with the sky a day or 2 ago? It wasn’t that serious

It was all just to stop CC double double,

Emptying the bench is none of the other team's business. It should have been the same with Angel Reese. If her team wanted her to play full time for going for a double double record its their business.

there's no way of knowing what that was about unless the coaches say it themselves. what the commentators are saying is just speculation, they could be completely off. nothing go out of hand, if anything i think the ref stopping the game and getting between them made it look like more than it was. nothing was going to happen. and they talked it out and hugged.
