What is the God particle (The Higgs Boson)?

The Higgs Boson was one of the most important discoveries of this decade that was an answer to the long standing unsolved problem in physics: How do particles acquire mass? Higgs mechanism and the Higgs boson provide a solution to this question? But why is Higgs Boson so important? Why we spent over 14 billion dollars on it and why is it called the God particle?

Scientists keep in breaking, dividing the primary particles and keep on naming them with weird names.but still in doubt about the fundamental particle which made up those primary particles.
