Recognition of and appreciation for the value of career and technical education as an engine for economic and workforce development was on full display on June 20 during an official groundbreaking event for the future Ulster BOCES Career Pathways Academies at iPark 87.

United States Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, New York State Education Department Commissioner of Education Dr. Betty A. Rosa, U.S. Congressman Pat Ryan, and Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger joined Ulster BOCES District Superintendent Dr. Jonah Schenker and a group of young professionals who attend the Career & Technical Center to spotlight the importance of career and technical education and the integral role it plays in economic and workforce development.

Construction is currently underway to transform more than 105,000 square feet into a state-of-the-art career and technical center that will provide for industry partnerships on multiple levels. The move, expected to happen in September 2025, will also allow for program expansion across the board by repurposing the existing Port Ewen campus to meet the growing needs of students with different abilities.

What a great day! #CareerTech #WorkForceDevelopment #EducationInnovation #UlsterBOCES
