Bishop James Conley of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln celebrated the annual Memorial Day Mass at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Lincoln.

During his homily he remembered all of those who gave their lives defending our country and protecting our freedom, including Servant of God Father Emil Kapaun of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita, a chaplain during the Korean War who died at the age of 35 in a prisoner of war camp in North Korea. Bishop Conley also talked about Pope St. John Paul II's special bond with Mary as the Church marks the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church.
