"Playing over an open A across the neck? That's a pedalin'. Staying in one position? That's a pedalin'. Playing those sweet Bach licks over a low E drone? Oh, you better believe that's a pedalin'." - Jasper Beardly

Rick, I appreciate you to no end. Bought your book. It is exceptional, especially when I couple it with your teaching videos. I have so much to learn, but you are giving me confidence that I can learn it! Thank you so much!!!

Rick, I LOVE your videos brother!!❤️🙏🏾 I learn SO much from all that you share. THANK YOU. You inspire me to talk and think about music in a variety of very novel and very powerful ways that keep ME falling in love with the never ending path of the musician over and over again, more deeply each time. Your passion is as infectious as it is obvious, your knowledge is DEEP, and your spirit is generous and down to earth. Your approach to theory makes it incredibly clear and easier to understand and gets a person hungry to learn more because you make music theory so PRACTICAL. Can’t say enough good things. Thanks again!!🙏🏾

For everyone asking about Rick saying not to barre-- It's because he wants to preserve the independence of the lines during the pedal point lick specifically. You can develop barres to the point they are pretty clean. Gambale and Eric Johnston come to mind. It takes a ton of work.

Nice! Sounds like Bach, and this puts me in mind of the original of "pedal points", which I think had to do with organ pedals.

Your solo in that song is beautiful. Looked up the band and song on iTunes and am enjoying your work there.

Hey Mr beato if you have time can you make a mini series of short videos teaching lessons to kids. I have my son in piano school but I was wondering if you can help me teach him some more tricks of the trade for kids, .

Love the videos

Hey Rick, I was wondering if and when a Sounding Off episode with Synyster Gates is coming out? Either way, your videos are outstanding. Myself, and so many others have grown tremendously as musicans as a result! Thank you!

Thank you Rick. I've transcribed these exercises in notation (all except the very last example), which I can now practice. Excellent tuition.

Great stuff. Excellent teacher. Golden advice to me and those who are willing to learn more to improve our playing and enrich our knowledge to reach another level.

Hey Rick, thanks again for another great lesson! Your ideas are a continuing source of inspiration to me. As for pedal point guys, check out Bach's fugue in D in minor for organ.

Cool lesson, Rick! Thanks for the good stuff, as always. Btw: Trevor Rabin uses a C pedal point for the opening riff on "It Can Happen" from Yes' 90125 album. I believe he's playing a Coral sitar. Very cool and fun to play 🕶

Of this first pattern, Villa Lobos took this idea for his Prelude No 3 for guitar

really need to improve my vertical playing, I just play in the one box then the same an octave up but with my current grade I have to learn more positions for scales so that helps open up neck. I need to remember the intervals in scales rather than the shape I'm sure that will help alot more
