Jordies is a Loyal Labor Party Soldier Through and Through but as a former AUWU Member I can tell you from my experience his points on the AUWU's Leadership and other Higher Ups in the AUWU are Bang On

Where I live in Newcastle, England being a Geordie just involves being working class and having functional alcoholism.

Hopefully the CFMMEU break from the Queensland Labor left is a start of a positive trend. The activist membership that served as an appendage to the ALP is on its death bed, Labors constant capitulation to business doesn't help it in the slightest. The 2019 election should be a wakeup call to any leftist of the stagnation of the ALP. This problem cannot be voted away, it must be acted upon.

This is a really interesting point you've made about unions and one I've never thought about much. Thank you for bringing attention to this point. I think it was a good idea for you to not defend the AUWU though because there were various other points in that Jordies video that are worthy of criticism, most notably their awful "hotline". I still don't think the AUWU are really worthy of praise, but am now aware that another otherwise helpful organisation could be targeted and designated as "useless" just because they aren't legally a union.

If he wasn't aligned with Labor, he would be out there on his own, sitting duck.

Jordan appears to be playing the long game.

I left a comment on that video saying not to lean to much into the "not even a union" thing but I love that you bring the big brained critique. Thank you.

Crazy how the govt have convinced us that we need their permission to advocate for our own interests. Btw I'm not an official AUWU member but I've been on their mailing list for a year or so and they seem to be genuine in advocating on behalf of underemployed and gig employed workers.

As a disabled and chronically ill unemployed person, AUWU is one of the few organisations who are actually trying to make meaningful change for people like me. Of course I support them.

Good video, you raise some good points here. Interesting that Jordan has not done a video in response to this video; he often does this to respond to criticism from the likes of Gary Orsum and any journalist that criticises him.

I think its perfectly fair to critique the performance and financial decisions of organisations that are there to help people - this is coming from someone who stopped working for an activism organization for this very reason, and am unsure why some commenters are defending AUWU when the video is definitely not defending them overall.
Also, big oof to that like:dislike ratio

The union rep at my former workplace told everyone when he quit the union it was because they were instructed by Qld state labor not to intervene. We were a sacrifice for a previous deal with the greens on god knows what, election preferences or some bullshit. That particular union did some great work for the workers over the preceding 20yrs but just like that, they rolled over. 40 year old viable operation shut down just like that. Amazingly fucked to watch.

I used to be one of his patreon patrons and it's sad to see how far he's fallen. He's always been a Labor hack, but usually all that amounted to was giving the Greens less attention than they deserved when discussing political issues. Now he's doing low context attacks on people involved with an unregistered union, with no positive follow through for the issue at hand.

I think he's the kind of person who isn't willing to admit when he gets something wrong, and that's taken him to some dark places. A previous version of him would have acknowledged the argument that unemployment is a feature of the system and keeping a pool of unemployed people living in misery is something bosses can use to hang over workers heads and cut their rights. But this version feels like he can't let the fight go and therefore the AUWU is entirely worthless. Not wanting to be wrong about supporting the ALP (especially the Queensland ALP) has made him less convincing and compelling over time.

In addition to all this you can tell he really doesn't think highly of people doing it tough and has quite a conservative personal outlook. His humour often relies on punching down; I didn't notice because it blends into the tone of his political videos where everyone gets ridiculed, but in other contexts it can look quite malicious. You can also see he's quite impressed with Jordan Peterson from his 2nd channel (Jordan Shanks) as well as his podcasts etc. and has been engaging quite a lot with alt-right content, and some of it has rubbed off on him.

Right now he still probably does more good than harm, as he seems to attract a similar fanbase to the alt-right, and at least a very different one from typical political content, and he is going in hard against the Liberals with actual arguments. However I expect that if federal or even NSW Labor formed government, he'd be a Ben Shapiro or Steven Crowder type defending the indefensible. If he fell out with Labor I think he'd just go full alt-right - the people calling him a millennial Mark Latham are on to something.

Hey BadEmpanada, just saw your video shared on FJ reddit. I feel like I'm in the middle of this AUWU/Jordies spat, knowing many AUWU members and have been involved on a fringe level for years. Contact me if you feel this goes any further. I'm unbiased and want to expose Jordan's total misunderstanding of grassroots campaigning. ta

The Labor Party was foundationally built around the concept of unionisation and workers rights in general, but it can certainly be argued that they are a shell of their former self in representing that today. Labor have become as status quo reinforcing as the liberal party in many ways (toting the "dole bludger" rhetoric etc), and the idea of the two party dynamic feeds into it (not in the literal sense of only being two parties, but in effect only two parties with real parliamentary power exist, with one functioning as the "shadow" when the other is in the light), though I would struggle to find a valid reason to ever place liberal above labor on the ticket even with this in mind.

The AUWU is an interesting topic really, I have spoken to representatives of the organisation and the idea is to provide union protections for people who are in work for the dole programs, and seeking solidarity (solidarity amongst unemployed peoples to clarify for Jordy) in terms of actions against the suspension of payments. The work for the dole systems in particular are quite disturbing in how they function, the government contracts through job service providers to keep everything in check, who are not bound to the same rules and regulations as government departments, allowing them to shirk some of the responsibility there.

Prior to Covid19 we had quite strict rules in place putting people to work in these programs (for under the equivalent of minimum wage mind you), and penalising people for any array of minor inconveniences to those job service providers, but suddenly when millions of people had to fall back on that safety net, they were exposed as having been severely under compensating people out of work, and had to up those payments.

I would presume Jordy supports the idea of such social safety nets, considering how vulnerable unemployed people are, so I wonder how he feels about the constant threat of having even that meagre level of support revoked for many arbitrary (and some valid) reasons?

Has Jordan responded to this? It'd be great to hear him argue your points.
