Okay, after this song, I just really want to say...

StrayKids is one of the most amazing groups in kpop right now, and really, the best rookie group out there for me. Why?

1. They are self-producing idols. Regardless of whether their song is your cup of tea, still, they started out with writing their own title tracks even during predebut era (go 3racha!)
2. They dabble in creating their own choreography
3. Their choreo is not just your typical choreo. It always relates to the lyrics or the song’s overall feel (refer to Get Cool vs I Am You vs Voices vs My Pace)
4. Stage presence. They are not perfect, but look at their facial expressions because damn (Chan, I see you)
5. Rapper line is next level (need I say more)
6. Unique vocal color. You can compare vocal range and techniques across all the rookie idols and come up with your own ranking, but for me, Skid’s vocal line have a really nice color. It makes the lines they sing more meaningful and pleasing to the ears. This is something I have noted as well with other JYP vocals.
7. V I S U A L S. In the words of Lee Know himself, each member has his own charm and character.
8. Personality. Of course, we don’t know our biases irl, but having watched their shows since the survival show, these kids have shown sincerity and goofiness so far.
9. Content 24/7. These kids are smart and passionate enough to think of content of their fans. Have you seen their IG and vlives? Ofc some of these are part of the marketing plan, but at least they are really out there putting together a skz weekly program and have mentioned thinking of what they could do. I hope they continue the whole program thing next comeback.
10. Relatable lyrics. I their lyrics. I am way older than skz but still I identify with all their content. I hope when people listen to their songs, they also look up the lyrics to enjoy them more.

They have a very huge opportunity for growth. Charts, do they really matter? For some parts, yes, but still, it’s not the ultimate measurement of their success. No matter what happens, they truly deserve ROTY.
