Tailwind
Tailwind always comes from the back of the plane and is usually a disadvantageous type of wind. For, example if you are stopped on the runway, you will have a negative airspeed. This means when you have to take off, you must use more runway than usual because you first have to increase speed until 0 knots. This causes a much longer takeoff length. This can often lead to overruns, which can be fatal.
Headwind
Headwind is very helpful, especially on short runways. Unlike tailwind, headwind comes from the front of the plane. For example, if you are stopped on the runway, you already have positive airspeed. Now, if you are taking off, you have to use less runway because the plane already reached a positive amount of airspeed without even moving.
