Why Trudeau's popularity has taken a nosedive

Justin Trudeau became Canadian prime minister on a platform of being nice and a clever social media campaign. The FT's Ravi Mattu explains why maintaining his carefully constructed image was always going to be difficult

Spends a lot of time in Northern Canada apologizing for this and that from days of yore. Spends like an NDP, saddling our grandchildren with debt even before they are born. Has imported old style Quebec corrupt politics to Ottawa. Seems to have a lot of time doing photo ops. Clueless on how to govern a G7 country like Canada. Mishandling SNC Lavalin back room politics and Bombardier handouts. Now an April Fools Day introduction of a carbon tax that is nothing more than a tax grab. Has had two senior cabinet ministers mutiny. Can't be trusted to travel overseas especially to third world countries with a Canadian government chequebook doling out funds that usually ends up in some dictators Swiss bank account. Born into privilege and with a silver spoon, inherited great wealth and it all shows.

In the end, Trudeau has turned out to be just what his name implies, another slimey politician. His father was HATED while he was PM, except for a brief honeymoon period known as "Trudeaumania". The first Trudeau clung to power for so long only because the opposition was led by unappealing leaders. After about ten years of Pierre Trudeau and fighting only his second election, even an unknown and awkward Conservative leader was able to beat him. The victory was not a measure of the winner's popularity with the voters so much as a measure of their hatred for Pierre Trudeau. This reincarnation of a Trudeau has youthful looks for a politician and the girls, and some men, love him and his thick, dark hair. He failed in many of the prime tests of leadership, primarily debt management and border protection. What could be more important than those? In spite of his claims to respect women and their minds, it turn out he was just a groper after all, and some would say a bit rough around women. He further inflamed the voters when he paid a convicted terrorist, who killed an American medic, millions of dollars, and has gone on to welcome tens of thousands of illegal border crosser's only to stick taxpayers with the cost of hotels and caring for them. His trip to India was a total embarrassment and achieved nothing positive. He failed to revise the voting system, but that may not be a bad thing. Now we find out that money and contributions to the right cause (his) buys special considerations in Canada. Time for this politician, who is cast in the same mold as all the other politicians, to go. He is all show, as many have said, and full of very little in the way of real solutions or ideas about how to run a country.

Why someone would think he is popular is beyond me. The media made him popular. If the truth about him and his party have been accurately reported we would not be in the mess we are in now. The reason is because he would not have been voted in.

Such as creating the most debt out of the 23 PMs Canada has in a time of no war or financial crisis, several MPs has accused him of his faulty leadership style, and firing JWR & Dr. Jane Philpott -- especially when we demand honesty and integrity in politics

Trudeau is all flash and zero substance. I've never seen a news story about his success as prime minister, just woman's blogs about how polite and attractive he is and pictures of his socks. Along with the constant scandals/embarrassments.

Justin is just holding a party, playing a show, doing a drama, handing out lots of fanfare but no substance. He was a gym coach, a nightclub bouncer, an actor, and a drama teacher. He is good at holding parties, having a good time, and acting it out.
