Membrane Systems MSA3 Air Purifier - Review, Maintenance, & WTF is CADR/HEPA?

The kind folks at Membrane Solutions sent me this MSA3 air purifier for review. As long as you can get it for less than $100, I think it's a decent air purifier. I also go into my standard spiel about the various air purifier jargon to help explain it a little better.

I thought I'd add that the filter has a pre-filter on it, I've been told that the filter shown in the video is supposed to be vacuumed when the pre-filter gets gunked up. I think the filter timer is basically telling you how gummed up the prefilter is.
I've had this purifier for about 3 or years in my home office and run it constantly. The only issue I've run into is the fan gets noisy when the filter is blocked with dust. It has noticeably reduced the smell of smoke during the days we get forest fire smoke in the air and smoking from vaping indoors is also noticeably reduced. That filter gets packed with stuff so I'm very sure it's working great.

I just got mine today the fters are 29.99 I was thinking how about I vaccuum the filter out once a week think that will make it last longer

Have you looked into other manufacturers replacement filters that would fit the Membrane Solutions unit? $160 a year seems a bit steep for filters. Do you know if the unit has air flow monitoring to give an accurate reading of how clogged the filter is?

THE BAD: Air Filter Replacement / Magnet Technology so to force you to buy their expensive filters. I'm cool with capitalism but be transparent and tell your potential customers the truth. I have a video of me showing how the manufacturers filter attaches to magnets, but the knockoffs do not because their screen is not metal. This unit is plagued with issues. The first one being the tabs holding the face plate are fragile and prone to breaking and after replacing the filter it is hit or miss on the unit starting again. I made the mistake of buying two. Live and learn, I guess.

On my second brand of knock offs. So far only the manufacturer's expensive brand works in the unit.
